If I notch the shifter hole at the bottom so I can pull the stator cover off without removing the shifter will it hurt anything? I can't see that the plastic supports the shifter very much. If I wanted to change the front sprocket I'd have to remove the nerf bar, foot peg, and shifter and the cover to get to it, But if I notched the shifter hole all I'd have to do is pull the cover. Will this screw anything up if I did this?

Yes the cover supports the shaft and keeps it centered in the seal. If you do what you said it will shorten the seal life and also the bushing in the case. If you don't want to remove all that stuff to get to the sprocket, then you should buy a 3 piece billet stator cover! But, hell it's your bike, do whatever you want to it.

Or you can just cut out the part covering the sprocket like a lot of people do, it will still give the shaft some support and you dont have to take off the cover to swap sprockets.

Just don't wear bell bottom pants when you ride.

Like mentioned, buy a billet cover.

How often do you change sprockets? If you are changing them that often, then something may be out of alignment or you are using cheap sprockets. Once you figure out the good gear ratio, you should be set for a while. It takes you what, like maybe 10min extra to remove the other stuff you listed?

I just ordered some new ones, doing both sprockets and a chain.. I was just curious, going to use a 13 for trail and woods riding and a 14 for dirt road riding. just seeing if there was a fast way to swap them.
