007banshee Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 Hey guys i have another build im starting soon, id like to build this engine a little more than the one i just finished- stock engine and carbs, +4 timing, reeds,fmf pipes/silencers, bored .60 over. The next one i am thinking 4mill or get it trail/play ported. Which would be the best bang foe my buck and reliable for trails. 4mill require new or shaved head, bigger base gasket and a 4mill welded crank? Anything else? thanks Quote

What I gathered was porting the motor would be get me close to a 4 mil power (assuming stock cylinders) for a little less money than a 4mil. A 4mil would cost a little more but would yield more power and might be a little more forgiving due to displacement. I ended up finding some used cubs that I installed but I was leaning towards the 4mil, I also liked that I could upgrade cylinders down the road. Just my .02, good luck. Quote

AKheathen Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 not to mention, if you port for stock stroke, then go 4mill, you are not really going to be able to re-port trail on the 4mill. it will be an aggresssive dune, or higher rpm port you would be stuck with. i would go 4mill first. torque across the board, then port fot the 4mill. you can even budget it, and start with the kit, and use the spacer plate, then save up and buy a head/domes, so you can ditch the spacedr plate, and then finally port it. in the end, it is about 1200 to do a proper 4mill. I am building a second motor right now too. It also will be a 4mill . From what I read the 4mill is the best bang for the buck for great power. So if you are building spare or just a second motor for more power then save the money & do a 4mill with the port job of your choice. Just my .02 Quote

If I use a spacer plate i can still use the stock head from what i have read. I am at 900ft for elevation, 20cc domes work alright? Quote
