xuberantz Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 For those of you familiar with the Trinity Stage IV head, I was wondering if I could use extended studs and regular acorn nuts instead of the acorn nuts that go down into the head to reach the stud. I don't see any point in paying $12 a piece plus the cost a shipping for the acorn nuts if I can just use my extended studs and regular acorn nuts. I'm not sure if this would cause a coolant leak or cause any issues as right now I'm having issues with my 'shee pushing coolant out the overflow when hard on the throttle... I've replaced the rad cap, now i'm going to replace the orings in the head.. Thanks for any insight.. Quote
Finch Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 as long as their not bottoming out your should be all good why cant ya run them with the stock studs? as long as they go in a decent amount and dont bottom out before torqued you outta be ok. Quote

The stock stud doesn't stick through the head the Trinity head uses a special acorn nut that goes down into the head to reach the stud... I'm not sure if that seals anything around the stud from leaking or not I'm new to all this lol I'm about to replace my first set of orings... Quote
Finch Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 never seen one and if its already on dont ya have the accorn nuts? Quote
xuberantz Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 never seen one and if its already on dont ya have the accorn nuts? Nope previous owner put longer studs in two holes and used two different kind of nuts. Not sure if this is causing the problem, or if it's the orings. I didn't notice it till a few days after i bought it I started noticing coolant disappearing and dripping in the front out of the overflow house. With the overflow hose off the radiator in the front it will spew coolant like crazy when driving it with any kind of aggression. I suspected the orings obviously, but I wasn't sure if it could be the two other studs that don't have acorn nuts extending into the head blocking some kind of passage causing this issue... or if it's simply a bad oring. Coupelx Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 other than there is now nothing to keep the head centered... Quote
Finch Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 i could be wrong but it overflowing or boiling out could be over heating have ya cheaked your impeller latly? Quote
xuberantz Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 i could be wrong but it overflowing or boiling out could be over heating have ya cheaked your impeller latly? It'll happen when the water is 130 degrees, no bubbles at idle but as soon as you give er... she spews... illet impeller... and It should be centered? it has 8 of the regular acorn nuts on it, and 2 that aren't the original... Finch Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 i guess its worth a try but i know in my pd head none of the studs have anything to do with water passages so ya may have a bigger problem at hand. Quote
hp2000 Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I think trinity o rings are also different. I would just order the Acorns and o rings all together and not have to rig it. Quote
xuberantz Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 I ordered trinity orings a few days ago before I started pulling the head off today. I didn't notice that two of the studs were slightly extended and thought that may be the problem instead of the orings...I didn't get the head all the way off, I stopped when I realized the different studs/nuts and went online to see if that was right... I noticed it wasn't, and got to thinking that may be the problem instead, but then I thought doesn't the dome have it's oring that keeps compression away from the water so the stud shouldn't have anything to do with it whatsoever? I'm really new to this all.. I guess i'll have to slap the new orings in and give it a whirl when they get here... Quote
WINDYCITYJOHN400 Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Trinity has been known to have some major issues in the past with their machining. (Even thought they have CNC's) Everyone knows about their domes. But some people have gotten head shells that on one side had the dome supports cut .080 deeper than the other side. I personally had a head shell that had the domes recessed into the head instead of sticking slightly out. So get out the measuring tools and give everything a good look over before you drop coin on any replacement parts. Just a suggestion........... Quote
