Hey HQ,

 

Having a problem with my carbs.

 

I would go out for a short ride, come back. Turn gas off, go in house.

 

Back the next day and I realize that some fuel is missing from the line, turn the gas on and you can see it fill back up, as if my bowls were empty.

 

So im assuming the needle seat isn't fully closing? The slides are fine, needle seat is new, and needle seat valve is new. (not sure what they are called exactly, heard they are also called plungers.)

 

Another thing is im not sure if it is both carbs or only one.

 

It runs fine.

 

Stock carbs btw.

Im not gathering what you are saying...

 

There is no way for that much gas to get out of the float bowl.... The bowl is just that, a bowl... Its like saying I filled a cup of water then the next day the water was gone...

 

The plunger only stop fuel flow of the float is engaged... The needle is only used when there is air flowing through the carb....

i bet his carb floats are mis-adjusted and its letting a little bit of fuel into his exhaust which would use up the fuel that is left in his fuel line.

Either that or he hasn't noticed it but it may be leaking out the over flows off the sides of the carbs onto the ground and that is where the fuel from his fuel lines is disappearing too...

@Jereme Nah it isnt going out of the overflows, i checked for that.

 

@Jl yeah i know its not the needle, im not even sure what they are called correctly, I have seen needle seat, plunger, etc.

okay....try running your bike then shutting it off and leaving your petcock on for about 30 minutes and then turn it off and pull your pipes.......you could ever start unbolting everything while you wait.....i bet its over flowing into your exhaust if its not making its way to the ground.....

 

and it is a needle (which is the plunger that goes up and down) and there is the needle seat which the needle goes down into and gets blocked off..

 

if a little dirt or a piece of sand gets lodged in there it wont stop the fuel flow and will continue to leak .....

Figured out the problem Jereme, didn't do what you said but my right carb float is a little off.

 

It must be letting fuel into the cylinder which might be the reason why it takes a few more kicks to start and why it smokes more then normal (also more then the left side) at first.

 

Ill adjust it and report back,

 

A little backstory is basically the pin holding the float mushroomed a little bit so I bent the float a little while getting it out, I must of not noticed it while replacing the plunger and plunger seat.
