Cam, are you just doing the shift-star mod, shift shaft mod, shift pro roller bearing, side cutting the gears and putting the drum on bearings? I've been smoothing the curves on the drum where the forks progress to the next gear & I'm very happy with the results.

that's not a bad idea you got there BigRed.......my question though.......does it cause mis-shift or accidental shifts if your trail riding a real rough section?

I would like to know what all is done in these mods too I cut my gears and mod the shift star but like everything always want something better!!!

Cut gears, bearing on the drum, mod shift shaft, mod star,

those are the things i have found that works the best with the least amount of miss shifts. i have blasted my 421 through the whoops at the dunes full throttle in 5th and the trans never skipped or missed out. back in the MX days they would stay in gear with no issues after flat lands etc. it can be full throttle shifted with a minimal slip of the clutch, or a blip of the throttle. the larger cc and tq/hp motors really need them to work even half ass right.

 

if the trans shifts on its own its most likely the spring on the roller is too weak or the star is to low cut. these are the reasons i stay with OEM

when i get my 4 axis jig, drum cutter done this winter i might try and do some of the smoothing on the drums and test it out.. i did this a long time ago by hand and i didnt really think it was worth the extra cost and time. i never do anything unless i have personally beat the hell out of it in my own personal bike for at least a few months of hard riding. i hope to have some overrides done by spring!
