Slow03shee Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 My 03 banshee with the mods listed in my sig is sick. I need help. Ive been running 1/8th mile drag strip and with my mods it will only run the best of 9.20. My buddy has a banshee with just pipes and k&n and will run 9.30's so there is something wrong with mine. Please any help would be great. It has 140psi on each cylinder so compression isent the problem. Im geared 15 42. Not running out of gear just dosent really have a power band. I know my pipes are like fmf's experament series but shouldent hold it back that much till i get some new ones. My buddy has sst's. Any help would be great. O and elavation is 200-500. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 First of all Welcome to BHQ !! You don't have that much more than than your bud and 1/10 in an 1/8 mile is a lot. What's the difference in your trap speeds? What's the rest of your set-up? Lowered? Tires? Swingarm? Etc? Quote

Ive got reeds, timing plate, open air box, and at least 100lbs lighter than him lol so i got some on him. I know he caint ride better than me because i can run passes on his bike and make better times than he can. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Maybe try 40 rear, pod filters, maybe tad leaner. What kind of tires? How's your launch? Quote
fastquad02blaster Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Where you been racing at in missouri? I'm an hour south of Kansas City. Your jetting seems close with your mods listed. You could try a touch leaner just to see. Quote
Slow03shee Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 I'm running duro street tires. I have no problem hooking at all. We race at sikeston drag strip. I'm going to change to pods and all that eventually but I just don't see how my buddies bike is pretty much as fast as mine with less stuff done to it. Something has got to be wrong. I might try a tad leaner but I'd like to stay a touch rich just to be safe. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 (edited) X2 on richer. Plugs are cheaper than pistons. How are reeds? What kind? Just noticed you have same pipes as my son. To me they don't seem to have much over-rev, try gearing up a little. Edited May 10, 2011 by Larry's Shee Quote
fastbanshee8 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 The reason you run better times on his bike, than him is simple, you weigh less. Each additional 8 lbs, costs 1 HP. Quote

I don't like my pipes but you wouldent think it would make that much differece.? Quote

Exactually so why isent my bike with more parts better compression and me weighen less not running off and leaving his? Quote
fastbanshee8 Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 340 main sounds a bit rich. I had a similar setup, and 320's ran good, but every bike is a bit different. You may just be out of tune, a bit. Quote
Jereme6655 Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 you really don't have that much of a different bike than him. you've got a boost bottle which should be thrown out.......reeds which only help throttle response.....and your timing advance which helps you gain a little down low but takes away from your top end. other than that.....from what you listed....your running the same bike. Larry's Shee Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 What gear are you in when you go thru traps? How long are you wound out in this gear (time & distance) ? What I'm getting at is that you want to still be accelerating or just peaking when you hit the line. My son has same pipes and they don't have any over-rev. That's why dropping your gearing may help. Next time you're at track if you can, do a plug chop. Might not have time to cut plug, but with a magnifying glass and good light look at plugs, or cut them later. For dragging you might get away with leaner jets, plus it's getting warmer. You are now at the point that the addiction for speed is kicking in and you're jonesing for a "fix" Do you also trail ride? Remove fenders. Any excess weight. Consider different pipes even if you only use them at strip. Laws of physics say you are only going to go only so fast. Just be cautious with jetting. If this is bracket racing concentrate on consistency. Good Luck !! Quote
Slow03shee Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 I'm just hitting 6th gear before the end of the track. I know I need new pipes for sure. Yes I also trail ride. We just started dragging out there about two months ago for fun on Sunday's. I know the boost bottle is worthless but it was on there when I got the bike. I've got reeds, timing plate and at least 100 pounds lighter than him is what I'm getting at. If nothing else weight difference should make a good difference and riding skill. I'm by no means a pro but I know I can out ride him any where because I've done it. Trails track open groud all of it. I'll try to do a plug chop and see what it looks like this weekend. Quote
