midlifecrisis Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Ok, so Ive just finished installing ,my buddies motor after a complete rebuild, and now the kicker wont turn? It dont remember ever checking the kicker mechanism, but I did turn the motor over the day that I put the cool head on the top end, by turning the clutch. I have had the clutch cover off, and the kicker gear is returning diagonally back to the case as it should, and the spring doesnt appear to be getting hung up, so Im wondering if their is anything else thats obvious that I should be checking, before I open the cases back up and start looking around? okbeast Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 The kicker gear should be behind the idler gear if I remember correctly. So it pulls out away from the motor when you kick it. Not sure if that's what you meant in your explanation. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Check the idler gear, bushing may be worn. Quote
midlifecrisis Posted April 17, 2011 Author Report Posted April 17, 2011 OK, so I ended up taking the motor out, but I didnt split the cases. I started by trying to gingerly turn the motor over with a breaker bar. When it moved, I listened to wear the binding was happening. I finally located the spot. It was the screw that holds the wire bundle onto my adjustable timing plate, binding against the the back of the flywheel as it turned.I turned the clip and tucked the wires in behind the plate, and everything was good to go. Bike started after 2-3 kicks. Now were doing the second heat cycle. Thanks for your help guys, I really wasnt looking forward to splitting the cases again so soon! Quote
bansheesandrider Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 That is why professional builders turn the motor over after every single piece is put on. Quote
