gotta_goatsfast Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 There are a ton of topics, but if I were to tell you to do some reading and some browsing and searchin... someone will get upset. There is a saying "you can give a man a fish, and feed him for a day. Or you can teach a man to fish, and feed him for life". Since teaching a man to fish is frowned upon, I will just give you the fish.... T6 pipes do not perform well with ported cylinders. For a trail set up, I would look at Pro Circuits or FMF Fatties and have the porter build to these specs. 90 horsepower out of stock ported cylinders (although could be achieved) is impractical. It would require a stroker crank, drag only powerband, and alcohol to name a few. Expect 55-60hp with a well tuned low-mid engine. 34mm carbs will feed your set up, but might not be as responsive in the low-mid range. It will give you a slight disadvantage in the trails since this is the area you'll most likely be throttling. There are plenty of advantages to porting. But only if you are honest with yourself and your builder. If you tell your porter you want 90 horsepower, you'll surely set yourself up to disapointment. Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Also, I would like to add one more point. Just because a trail or MX port is aimed at low-mid smooth power, it doesn't mean its going to be slow. It will still make more power than any stock port banshee. And if tuned right with parts that work well with each other, you'll still make enough power to hold your own against the 450 and big bore 4 stroke crowd. Quote
EZ2FLEE Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 I have a aggressive trail port on my bike, and I run T5's, I wouldn't have it any other way Quote

DYNAMITE Posted April 4, 2011 Author Report Posted April 4, 2011 thx guy also what should i bore to? i wanna be able to keep up or beat yz 450r Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 I would leave that up to the shop to decide. If your cylinders are within spec, save some money and just have it honed. With a broad midrange port and supporting mods it would take a very healthy 450r to hang with you in a straight away. Quote
BigRed350x Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Give Kevin at Herr Jugs Racing a call and talk to him about getting your cylinders ported. Great guy to deal with, top notch work, fast turnaround... You wouldn't be disappointed. Just tell him what kind of riding you are doing and what you want the bike to do and he will hook you up. I wouldn't go anywhere else. His number is in my signature. With Kevin's porting and the normal bolt-on mods (which you can get from kevin as well) you won't have any problem at all keeping up with and bearing those 450's. Quote
DYNAMITE Posted April 4, 2011 Author Report Posted April 4, 2011 is there any one really good on the east coast? to port my cylinders Quote
252wheelieking Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 is there any one really good on the east coast? to port my cylinders As stated before you won't be dissapointed with Kevin's porting at all. I hesitated for the longest on porting & tried my best to get the most HP out of my shee with bolt ons. Porting really wakes your shee up man. I wish I had been got the porting done. Any site sponsor will get you alot faster than what you are now. Just tell them what kind of riding you mostly do & they will hook you up. I smoke yzf/trx/kfx/lt-r 450's, raptors, some banshee's, 250r's, predators, outlaws, 450r dirt bikes all day long after kevin gave me this nice ass stoke stroke set-up. I put my GARMIN GPS in my pocket & it clocked me @ 93 mph & I didn't hold the throttle wide open for a long time in 6th gear. Quote

robert.b.west Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 Why do you want to stay local. I would send them out to a reputable builder. People only have good things to say about site sponsors like kevin and jeff. Quote
DYNAMITE Posted April 5, 2011 Author Report Posted April 5, 2011 not that i wanna stay local just wanted to stay near east coast for shipping reasons Quote
252wheelieking Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 not that i wanna stay local just wanted to stay near east coast for shipping reasons shipping only like $10-$15 USPS flat rate 1-3 day delivery to kevin on the west coast. How cheap are you trying to get shipping. Just ship them to any site member & stop being so cheap. It's only going to cost you more $$$$$ trying to save $10-$15 in shipping cost. Trust me im from the EAST COAST TOO(NC) Quote
