noob Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) hey guys, let me start off by saying this is an awesome site herer with lots of usefull information. heres the deal, i just got this 96 banshee from a guy for pretty cheap and he told me it need some work. after putting a new chain on it, i went out and rode it a little and noticed it was low on water. after filling the radiator i noticed it was leaving a stripe of what i can only describe as milk on the ground behind it. the guy said it was about due for a rebuild which is cool for the price i got it for, but i was wondering is when i tear it apart what are some things i should look for and what should i have a machine shop look at/do for me. i am a diesel mechanic so i am not incopitent just want to know what is ok to do yourself and what should be left to the pros. thanks for any help guys. i look forward to learing alot about these machines. oh by the way the bike has lots of mods and will post them soon once i find the list. Larry's Shee Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) Do a leak down and comp test before you tear it down, plus find out where the "milk" is from. Welcome to BHQ. GYTWYPT Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 If you are a diesel mechanic you will not have a problem with this. If you do not already have a clymers manual for your shee. I would get it first thing. You should be able to do everything that needs to be done yourself except the boreing of the cylinders. Might have your crank trued and welded if it is not already done if you are going to tear into the bottom end. Maybe check the clutch while you are down. None of it is a big deal.
