TheBigShabowski Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 I Rescued my first banshee from roting away behind a garage. It's bone stock except for t5 pipes and i got it to run. I have been a member of the site for a couple weeks now trying to soak in as much knowledge as possible. Im looking to do i few mods. So far i ordered tors eliminator, carb rebuild kits, cool head with 22mm domes. I see most of the members here using adjustable timing plates and setting them to +4. Whats the benefit of advancing the time 4 degrees? is it for top end, low end excel? Will it be worth doing to a stock shee with the little mods listed above? Thanks in advance!! Quote
Larry's Shee Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Welcome !! Stock timing plate can be modified for +4. It adds more out of the hole, takes a little away from top. Quote

X2 I will help low end power. IMO I would get a ricky stator or chariot adjustable timing plate. I've never had an issue with these: http://www.rickystator.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=131 Quote

As long as your jetting was right to begin with you will not need to rejet just for the timing advance. But to be on the safe side I would run it and give the plugs a good look over to make sure you are not running lean if you are not the one that put the pipes on it. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 X-2 on jet check. Clean carbs good after tors kit, record jetting and settings while you have it apart so you have ALL info for future reference. Check the sticky for tors removel. Quote

Ok, my clymers manuel says to run the fuel ratio at 24:1 is this acurate?. There is alot of talk about plug chopping. what is this refering to and will it benefit my buid? I just ordered a chariot billet timing plate Ive went through the tors sticky about 5 times. i also noticed a sticky for installing the timing plate. This is honestly the most helpfull forum ive ever been on. Thanks again!!! Quote

guns4children Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 i run 40:1 wanna know why? cause my oil comes in 16oz and i use 5gal cans haha Quote
crash&burn Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 you may want to do a leakdown test... you said you rescued your banshee from rotting away from behind the garage.... it just seems to me that its been sittin out there awhile so you may have some air leaks from it sittin.... just somethin to do on the safe side don't wanna cause any problems Quote
muggzy Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Be sure to use a synthetic or semi-synthetic 2-stroke oil. I use Maxima SuperM at 32:1 (4ozs/gal) and I've recently found out another benefit of the stuff - it doesn't separate in the cold . I was told that oils that do should have a warning on the bottle but...? Anyway, don't use that cheap stuff from Home Depot or Walmart. And Welcome to BHQ! Quote
dcalsv02 Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 You don't have to use a synthetic oil. Mainly preference. I run blenzoil which is a castor, and I love it. I used to run super-m but switched when I rebuilt my motor. Quote
