U do need a crossover tube.

When i just rejetted my banshee a couple weeks ago, i talked to the mechanic about boost bottles and the stock tube.

You DO need it because if the carbs are not tuned 100% equally then the crossover tube allows the difference to flow between the carbs and equal it out.

Without the crossover tube, u will notice a distinct difference in performance, it will run as if it needs to be tuned.

Name ANY other multi cyl 2-stroke that uses a crossover tube ( maybe RZ?) Has anyone actually experienced the diff between crossover or none? Or is this a myth/marketing ploy. Do you have dyno sheets to back it up ? If you did was it REALLY the tube or were your carbs WAY off? I bet I can name more examples of NOT having a crossover than you can with one.

I wasnt saying that a crossover tube is needed in order to run, i was just stating what the mechanic said, and when i thought about it it kind of made sense.

I do know that the tube does increase ur throttle at low end and without the tube it is more likely to bog out at low rpms.

So i wasnt trying to say that u dont need the tube, i was just saying that it makes sense that it would help to have one.

lol, the difference is like running slightly different reeds, imo. funny thing- sno-go twins do not come with a cross-over, but haqs nipples cast for it. i've run, and talked to several that have run boost bottles on a sled, and it actually changed the throttle a little. the cross-over is better, though, since it's not a delay through the chamber, so it's a down-grade in throttle response on a banshee. what the effect is- with every stroke, there is a return pulse that sneaks past the reeds and spits through the carbs. believe it or not, yamaha actually pioneered the resonator (boost bottle) to dampen the pulse, on single cylinders. yamaha (obviously) found that a strait cross-over pipe works better, since it sends the pulse to the other cylinder, which is on it's intake durration. a boost bottle just doesn't do that, instead, spits the pulse when the reeds first open, and delays carb draw. no cross-over, just spits back through the carbs a little more, which you can tune for. on e you get past mid-range, mid throttle, none of them matter......well, there's the short sum of my research....

I've been researching this as well. On my newest 421 Cub build I ordered some Chariot intakes, not knowing they would have the built in crossover. I've got them installed, and now I'm trying to find out if the crossover helps/hurts anything. I only race 300 ft and this is the only motor that I have with a crossover in the intake.

one of the things that is/was popular to do is add a crossover on the big vertical twins such as the xs650. i put one in on mine and it seems to hold an idle better and be more tolerant of being lugged when you are putting around. 4 stroke but same idea i suppose.

I chunk the crossover tube in the trash as soon as possible and order up a set of good intakes and better carbs. One less place to risk an air leak.

don't you mean sell on the forum for $10, or $15-25 with stock intakes?

the closs over tube just seems to be a yamaha thing my crapy phazers have it back to 84 it pobably just makes it easier to tune my banshee hasn't had it for years
