hnb Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 I am new to this site so first of all hello to everyone. second of all I have a 99 banshee that has been modded when I bought it. Mods include toomey full exhaust with t5s' and a hot crank stroked 4mm and 5mm rods , 30 over wiseco pistons and 3gg-10 cdi box, --- I have ordered tors elim kit and definately will need to up the jetting because I don't know what has been done to the carbs as of yet. I know stock carbs are small for a modded motor and would like at least 34mm pwk's but have to due with what I have until I can afford them. can a modded motor handle stock carbs with large jets around 290's --- I due understand that I won't have all that on the top end until I get bigger carbs but they should work for now?? I got the shee for a real fair price because they could not get it to run right but woever put the carb slides in had the in backwards and the carb bowls are full of crap and the carb circuts are plugged with gummy dried fuel. ordered carb rebuild kits also so I have new carb seals and needle and seats. going to rebuild carbs when I install eliminator/ idle adjustor kits --- any advise would be helpful Thanks Quote
Badbar88 Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 I'm running stock carbs on a 4mil with a dune port and it runs pretty hard. I'm gettin my hands on some 33PWKs soon to get some more out of it, but it runs great with stock carbs. Quote
hnb Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 Thank you for some info on the stock carbs ---- only question then --- what are you running for jets and initial idle circut's -- would 27's be acceptable Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 You can run stock carbs on your setup no problem. Don't go with just any number on your main jet. Every bike is different on the jetting it needs. Start off BIG and work down. I'd start off with like a 330 or 340 on stock carbs with a 4mil with T5's. Better safe than sorry. There are some guys out there who are a lot better with the jetting with stock carbs who can help you better. I do methanol and don't run stock carbs much any more... Quote
Badbar88 Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 BigRed is right, I started at 340's and ended up at 330's. I left the pilots stock...25's I think. I don't remember where my needle is set. I also run no airbox. Quote
hnb Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 tanks so far guys --- if anyone else can ad anything shout away --- all kits should arrive tomorrow and will know in a couple of days how this turn out --- also will post some pics soon and finish my profile -- the yamaha shop down the road has jets so finding them won't be a problem Quote

Jereme6655 Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 i would also run a 27.5 pilot........most aftermarket pikpes need more fuel to compensate for the better running pipe. also stock carbs can DEFINATELY handle the bike you have....without a problem. Shit....alot of people wouldn't believe what a stock carb can actually handle... Quote
06specialedition Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 I run stock carbs on my aggressive dune ported stock stroke.. and this thing rips hard. X2 on starting big and working your way down. Better to run a little rich, than melt a motor down. Quote
