What to do??!! I removed the cover, removed the nut, cleaned out the threaded area where the puller goes, and found flat threads. I have no doubt I could get a tap-and-dye from a friend but with the crank end (threaded) where the FlyWheel mounts going right through where the Tap would go; Im not sure what to do! Any suggestions as to how I should proceed? I can buy a new Flywheel/ balancer, but need the old one off first! As usual, any suggestions would be much appriciated!

Good luck on finding a tap, it is 27mm LEFT HAND THREAD. You can try a 3 jaw puller or cut it apart to get it off if you are going to get a different one. If you are replacing it, you would be better off with a used OEM Yamaha one than a new aftermaerket flywheel.

If you're going to be welding the puller to the flywheel, give it a shot with just threading it in first and tighten it down real good with a crescent wrench before hitting it with the impact. I've had some with what looked like stripped threads before , but there was still enough there to let the puller hold onto it enough to get it off. If it doesn't work, then do like NYUK said and weld the puller to the flywheel and take it off that way. Make sure when you are done and get it off to check your ohms on your stator. I've seen it get hot enough behind the flywheel to melt the stator side seal and melt some of the epoxy off the stator windings and mess it up. So I'd do a leakdown test and check your stator before you re-install the new flywheel you're going to need.

I also agree, get an OEM flywheel. the aftermarket ones are junk and use weaker magnets in them and the taper for the crank is usually incorrect in the aftermarket ones.

Thanks for all the pointers guys! Im going to first attempt to clean up the threads with a pic and force the puller in. Then Ill go 3 jaw, and replace it with an OEM. Thanks again!

the problem with a jaw puller, is that it can actually make the taper grab tighter as you pull....the best thing is pulling it from the canter. either weld a puller on, or a bell, or some sort of pipe fitting that you can make a puller out of. if it's stuck on there. drill the flywheel next to the taper to relax it and try again. it should pop after that, even if you have to smack the end of the puller tward the crank

Thanks AK, I didnt think about that one. I do have some pipe fitting that just might work if I cant carve the threads back. I may just try that.
