clutch414 Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 I just bought a trail tech HID 35w stock location kit. I have a ricky stator stock adjustable timing stator. I floated the ground and used their battery kit and DC converter with it. First of all I think that battery is a joke (looks like a remote control car battery). When I turned the lights on without the engine running only one light would lite up, shut off the switch and the other light would turn on. with the engine on the lights would not last much longer. If I put a battery bcharger on them they will stay lit for as long as its on. I put a bigger atv battery on it, went riding tonite, and yes it was about 10 degrees out, lights lasted about a half hour and then shut off. Now im thinking I need a heavy duty stator like a rs 200w. will this hepl to power both lights and charge the battery. any help would be great, just spent a shit load of money on lights that only work for a little while. I dont want to have to keep my battery on charge all the time, hoping the 200w stator does the trick. Thanks, Mike Quote

jasons Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 your pretty much maxing your stator out. your lights are using more power then the stator can charge it. i am running a 12v 7ah sla battery with no problem with my HIDs. i would also suggest you dump the tail light and get you a LED tail light from Autozone it will save you some power. here is a picture of it and it mount right up to the stock bracket. bansheesandrider Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 You can just buy an LED bulb to go in the stock tail light housing- it is a 194 bulb if it is an early bike without a brakelight and if you have the big tail/brakelight it is an 1157 bulb. That way you don't have to do any splicing. Quote

jasons Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 How many milliamps does it draw? honestly i dont know and the package doesnt say. cant be much. Quote
Snopczynski Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 honestly i dont know and the package doesnt say. cant be much. Depends, it can actually be pretty close to the draw of a 5watt 194 halogen light bulb depending on how many led's it has in it. Quote
fastquad02blaster Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 Not to steal the thread or anything....but since were on the subject. I was thinking about the 4" trail tech 75w lights. Run them in the stock location. Do you think that a 200w stator would keep up with those babies? I'm planning on doing the dc conversion with a battery. I read the article in dirt wheels on the fuel injection setup for a banshee and they were running the 4inchers. Just curious. Quote

I run a DC Conversion with a stock stator, it all depends on battery size. I wouldn't use a Ricky or RM Stator 200w if it was the last stator on the planet. Quote
