patrickkomar Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 After my rebuild during first start up my trans developed a squeal after about 10 secs of running. The trans seems to go into every gear ( didn't want to run it to find out) but it still squeals when the bike is pushed forward in N. I pulled the clutch cover off and can see nothing in there that would make the noise so I rolled the rear tires and it's most defently coming from the trans. Any ideas on what I should be looking for when I do the autopsy? Quote
Larry's Shee Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 Did you do just top end or were cases split ? Did you have tranny dis asembled? Check all bearings , look for any galling on gears, forks , or shafts. Take a close look at kicker idel gear bushing and bushing in clutch before you pull engine. Quote
sleeper06 Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 I have heard of trannies getting hurt on start up,first start on a fresh build if you didnt get enouph assembly lube on everything will squeek,Its probably a bushing or 5th gear pinion.Next time start the bike in 1st gear clutch in for the first minute then put it in nuetral. Its not uncommon what happened though most never have a problem Quote
patrickkomar Posted October 13, 2010 Author Report Posted October 13, 2010 Yes case was split. The kick start and clutch hub all check out fine. should I refill it with oil and tip the bike side to side and see if it stops, or should I just tear it back down and inspect? Quote
patrickkomar Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 Looked at the oil I drained last night this afternoon and it's defendantly a wasted bearing buy all the shrapnel in it. Tear down take two. Quote
