adamsj13 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Hi all, I'm not sure which one to get. Both are around the same price, 2000. I love dunes, but will probably ride trails sometimes. I don't drag race, but may just against my brothers for fun. I love the power of the banshee but have not ridden them much. I've mainly had TRX250rs and ATC250rs. I have never ridden a YFZ but have heard lots of good things about them. I know with 2 strokes you have to replace piston and rings, do you have to do that to 4 strokes often? I like the idea of just gas and go, with out premixing, but i dont want to base my decision on that. Im looking at 92 - 05 banhsees and 04 and 05 YFZ's. Tell me what you all think. Thanks all Quote
Phelps Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 if you think the maintenance of a 4 stroke is any less than a 2 stroke you are sadly mistaken. a 4stroke is just a little more dumbass proof. most of the guys around here get 5-8 years out of a engine on their banshee, light modded bikes. you show me a yfz that made it that long and i will show you a bike that sat in the garage and was never ridden. RadarRacing Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Neither the banshee nor the yfz is the perfect trail bike. The yfz is not more reliable than a banshee by any means and they grenede and cost big bux to fix. If I was trail riding 90% of the time I'd get something with reverse like a z400 or a raptor and either of those are as fast and fun on trails as a banshee or yfz, otherwise the banshee is the fast cheaper and easier to mod bike with unlimited potential. I know from person expiriance... if you get a yfz get 07 or newer... Thats the year they fixed there oiling problem to the cranks.... I'll never buy a 4stroke again... if i do itll be a 4x4 qaud.. I traded my YFZ for a Banshee. and im GLAD i did... Some people say the banshee's ride like shit.. and arnt trail friendly. BULLSHIT.. I loved ripping one trails with my shee.... Dont think a 4stroke isnt any maintenence like phelps said.. your highly mistaken...!!!! Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Coming to a Banshee oriented website is going to get you banshee biased opinions. You need to ride both of them and see what feels best. I will tell you that $2000 worth of YFZ probably isn't going to be as clean as $2000 worth of Banshee. Also, any high performance quad isn't going to be without high maintenance. The lack of precision valvetrain components makes a Banshee MUCH easier on the wallet and brain to rebuild. In all honesty, my Banshee is only apart right now because I'm dieing to build up a stroker motor. Otherwise, that motor was still very strong (stock 5 year old engine) PS: if you end up a proud owner of a banshee, you will have plenty of resources right here to help you with all your maintenance, performance, and cosmetic needs! I think I'll be getting the Banshee, Its 4mil motor, short rod. new rod 10 hours ago, Is this worth 2000? Quote

Its definatly worth checking out. All I can say is take it for a ride. With a modified motor, you'll want to check the compression and pull the plugs to examine them for proper jetting. See why it needed a rod replaced too. Quote
DallasGDub Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 I agree, a $2k banshee will be a lot nicer than a $2k YFZ. If you are looking for the most bang for your buck, get a Banshee. Saying that, I prefer my YFZ over my old shee. I miss the high high HP.....but man I love the lowend power, handling, and the cushy ride way more. But it is not cheap to pimp out, or easy to fix at all. I have not had any issues out of my 08. I get it serviced on the regular. I think if I rode nothing but the dunes, I would have to get another shee. It is really hard to compare both bikes. They are equal when it comes to pros and cons. Quote

I took the plunge and picked up a 99 Banshee. It was rebuilt about 20 hrs ago. Has 86 HP from the dyno sheet. I don't think I have ridden anything with this much power . There is 140 psi in one and about 137 psi in the other. It has been sitting for a bit since he has not used it much, so I will drain all the fluids and refill. With this compression, what gas should I run? He used Redline racing 2 stroke oil. 4 mm stroker, cool head, v-force reeds, toomy T-5 exhaust, Kiehin twin carbs., and swing arm extension. 86 hp on the dyno, Dirt and Sand tires for all four wheels. California Green Sticker. i got it for $2400.00 . I'll take some pics tomorrow. I'll also ask in the maintenance forum about the gas which to use. Quote
Jereme6655 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 California Green Sticker. BAHAHAHAHAHA Quote
dirtydownunder Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 banshee and lt both shit. what you want is one of these. Quote
06specialedition Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I sold my 2005 YFZ for my 2006 Banshee...Couldn't be happier. Quote
adamsj13 Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 86hp??????? seems a little fishy. He had the dyno sheet of it. But I'll have it done myself and know for sure. Quote
donkeypuncher Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 congrats on the buy homie, sounds like you got yourself a runner! 86hp??????? seems a little fishy. sounds believable to me... Quote
