patsbansh Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 I am having problems with my drag banshee. I have a 421 stroker motor fully drag ported with 16cc domes 40mm carbs running on 112 octane and cpi exhaust. i recently purchased a boondocker nitrous kit and although the tech has been extremely helpful, i am having problems tuning it. my questions are does anyone have experience with this ? What domes are you running, what octane are you using, is your timing +, -, or at 0? Is there an ideal compression i should be looking for? Any and all help would be appreciated from someone who has already been all of this. Thanks for some much needed help in advance Quote

RadarRacing Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 I don't know much about nitrous but I know 16cc domes, gas and boondockers is a BADD plan. Scrap that plan quick. Quote
TIM LUTZ Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) I have a bit of experience on 4 stroke motors and did have juce on a RZ. It really depends on how much nitrous. First of all there are a few general rules that apply. Run the best gas you can find. Make sure your fuel system can supply the carbs and nitrous system with a consistent pressure under all conditions. On a car this means a return type regulator and huge fuel pump. What you want is to have the same pressure with the carb floats closed and the fuel solenoid closed as you do with the float valves and fuel solenoid wide open. How much pressure? That depends and is one of the ways you tune a nitrous system. You also want to tune and run at the same bottle pressure. You will need to go with larger domes and take some timing out. If I had to guess and this is just a guess I'd say go to 19cc domes and retard timing 4 -6 degrees from where you are now for any decent amount of nitrous. Nitrous is nothing to f@#$ with if you don’t have experience with it and unfortunately the only way to get the experience is to ruin some expensive parts. I know. See what happens when you blow a head gasket on a WOT nitrous pass. What you get is a nice little blow torch that will ruin a head and cylinder in 1 second. I'm not trying to talk you out of running nitrous cause when you do get it right its better than sex. Sorry about that blank post. Don't know what the hell happend with that.
