hey i have a 2001 banshee, it is running synthetic motor oil in the tranny. it shifts from first into second alright but it is hard to get into 3rd 4th ect. its almost like it is binding or jammed up. i just got it and the previous owner didn't do any maintenance other than change plugs. will changing the oil to a different one help or is parts starting to go? it sometimes makes noise when warm?

thanks in advance

the shift forks sounds to be worn use the clutch when you shift .try yamalube transoil 20w40w

Adjust the clutch and shift per the manual. If that doesn't help might be bad fork :( When you have clutch cover off inspect kick start idle gear might be wearing ,good time for new bushing and c-clip , failure may be very costly  BTW idler may be your errant noise. JMO , your results may vary. BTW ,Welcome to BHQ !!

Sounds like a shift fork could be bent..... bearings in there could be bad but that noise should be rather loud and noticeble from other noises i have seen trannys not shift properly due bad bearings not keeping things in line but more then likely its a shift fork defintly somethin that should be looked at
