Needs some help

Recommended Posts

I have a love/hate relationship with my shee. It only works when it wants too. I live in Andrews Tx. Elevation is between 3160 to 3190 feet above sea level. Usually hot and dry climate. My bike is an 06 bored 40 over. List of mods are Fatty's. FMF pipes. Adjustable time plate after market stator. Tors eliminator kit and pod K&N filter. I use Br8Es plugs. I use H1R and mix at 4:1 at 91 octane.

Before I tried kicking it over this past Thursday I tried starting her up. However before did, I cleaned my filters, mixed up 3 gallons of gas, broke down carbs and cleaned them installed two new spark plugs. I installed 320 jets and put everything back together. Kicked and kicked and nothing happened. I broke down carbs again, installed my 310 jets in and put everything back together. Now keep in mind I just got finished with a weekend of riding near Hobbs, NM. Kicked and kicked. I gots lots of sputtering, backfiring. I switched it too reserve and it seemed to work a little better but still not even close enough to say im getting anywhere. I even used a small spray of Starting fluid even that did nothing. Starting fluid usually starts her up on one kick.

I then proceeded here and chatted my problems and was told to check the petcock. I cycled it on and to reserve. I have fuel flow. I then made sure no fuel line was clogged. Everything was clear. So I didn't understand the problem, I got fuel, The bike will sputter and come too life... barley... and I know I got compression if it is burning fuel. I know I gots spark. Plus I used brand new plugs.

This is my first 4-wheeler. I love how fast this thing will go, but I don't understand why it keeps breaking down. All my buddies Banshees don't break down. Theirs usually kicks over in one or two kicks. I have to spray ether in mine to get it going. I just want a fast RELIABLE machine. And im in not getting that. All im getting is frustration and a sore foot.

Check flywheel pick-up gap , .016 - .018 or thickness of business card. On my son's shee I had to clean the poles on the stator , inside of flywheel and pick-up nubs on flywheel. Make sure you use proper puller for flywheel. Inspect flywheel key if you pull it. If that doesn't work , see if your buds will let you use their stator and CDI to test yours ,swap parts one at a time to isolate which is faulty. Also could be spark plug boots. From what I've seen here coils rarely go bad.

Make sure that little black tube going across the carbs is there. The tors box under the gas tank is unplugged. Just for info all the aftermarket stators are shit. It sure sounds like your pilot jets are clogged. Why did you take the carbs apart in the first place?

I had recently bought a new Igniton coil. It solved the problem of why my left cylinder wasnt firing

Could sand have made its way into the Stator Magneto? Yes I have that tube there. I dont have a tors box. I tooks the carbs apart to see if 320's would work better than the 310's. I cleaned the pilots really well. Stuck a litle needle in the holes and sprayed them down with B12.

I have read up and down on why the Ricky Stator and Rm Stators are horrible. I bought a used stator off of Ebay.... I know the fellas name but he is a sponser here... anywaysm the Stator that I got was rusty and some wires where frayed. Also the coils on the center ring where cracked. So I traded it bak got another stator and bought a..... ahem.... rickey stator... it seems to be working... I guess... anywhom I have a better looking OEm stator on standby.

get yourself a compresion tester with the threaded end as long as the spark plug threads and check the compresion. low compression can do some interesting things to a bikes symptoms. hell ive seen dirtbikes that run pretty damn good once their running and warmed up......but needed to be pull started just to get enough compresion to start it.
