wfobasheeboy Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 do i have to disassemble it before it can be welded?? I had the same thing on my case . I welded it up with out pulling the motor down. Just drain the oil & clean the case really good & drilled out the ends of the crack to stop it from getting bigger. Then I welded it up. I use a MIG with aluminum wire. Quote

Yes I did drill through. I just put grease on the drill bit. That keeps the chips from going inside trans. Then I just flushed it out with parts cleaner. GOOD TO GO. I have not had any problems with it. That was about a year ago. Quote
prssantana Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 I would take it apart to weld it for a few reasons. 1 to check for more cracks and like already stated weld from the inside if possible. 2 you run the risk of burning the oil and having chunks of burnt oil floating around in your case. If it is taken apart you can clean them out first. I would get it tig welded too it is much cleaner looking and no spatter. Mig would be fine too though just not as nice Quote
wfobasheeboy Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 well thats a brave way to do it... abit of a sketchy way to do it with drilling right through and so on... though flushing the engine a few times usually does the trick most of the time... Yes you are right it is sketchy. But it worked, It did take me some time work up the balls to drill it. But it did save me a tear down. Also grease on the drill & a good flushing is the key. I flushed it to a clean can & there was no chips. When it needs a rebuild that will tell the truth if it was all worth it. Quote
