dirtbike drew Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Hay all I love this site I have found help with other post but now I'm in need of some help. I got my frist banshee a month ago. Its a 95 project it was miss a lot and still needs a few more parts. I don't have a top end on it now I need to bore the cylinders from sitting and I'm looking at getting a .020 over wiseco piston kit soon. But anyway. I still have the tors on it. And some day when I get the cash I'll remove them but for now I'm going to try to use them. I'm getting spark when I unplug the little black box for the tors by the coil. Or if I plug it back in it won't spark unless I move the thumb switch for the throttle then it will spark. I have no key switch yet I want to get one but for now I have a jumper from one wire to the other. I know that's not my problem but thought I would just tell u all. I'm getting good spark. Would I need to get a new black box or what do all u banshee pros think please let me know thanks. Drew Quote
Phelps Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 just leave the tors box unpluged. it wont effect how the carbs work at all. take the cylinders to a shop that can bore them and let them determine what overbore it needs. if you guess you may be out the cost of the piston kit. and on the ket note, why do you want one? if it's for theft reasons don't waste your time. the key will only keep honest theifs from stealing it. just soldier the wires together and heat shrink them. dirtbike drew Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Thanks but what does that tors box do ? And I all ready had a shop check the cylinder s out but they want around $350 for a .020 over piston kit. And I found a new ones on ebay for around $175-200 with top end gaskets and two rod bearings. And for the key its nice to have it. I have been riding and wrenching on 2 stroke dirt bikes for 23 years. And now to have a quad that can use a key sound sweet. My first quad is a quadzilla and I have a key for that and I like the opt and wanted to do the same with the banshee. Thanks for your info ..... Drew Quote

Drew The TORS box is just a brain that reads the state of the thumb throttle and the position of the slides (reported from the black boxes on top of the carbs) If the brain thinks that the throttle is not pressed but it thinks the slides are up it assumes you're riding with a stuck throttle and cuts the spark. It was a nice theory for safety but it's proven to be problematic. Leaving the box unplugged/throwing it in the garbage will just prevent it from cutting spark to your bike if it malfunctions. The TORS eliminator kit will remove those big boxes from the tops of your carbs and make setting your idle and tuning your carbs much much simpler. As for the keyswitch I agree with phelps the bike has a kill switch use the money to buy a good cable lock for your bike instead then you can chain it to a tree, or the trailer or something equally hard to move when you're not riding it. dirtbike drew Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Ok thanks. Yeah I want to do the tors remove kit some day soon.. But I'm still set on the key. If I go ride it up town go on the trails or where ever I'm riding and go in a store for a min or something. I just don't want some one to kick it over and start it and then there gone. But if I have a key then they not so fast to take it. But thanks for your input to...... Drew Quote
xX JAMMER Xx Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 you could always do something tricky like unplug the spark plugs if your worried about someone stealing it, or even do the coil wires. a lot less noticeable. but if your dead set on a key go for it. Quote

Drew should be around 100 bucks to have it bored, about 175 max for a piston kit. Quote
dirtbike drew Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Yeah $90 for the bore both cylinders. And u are right I seen some piston kit with top end gaskets and two top rod bearings for $175 shipped. But the cylinders just have a little surface rust on them from sitting some where that's how I got them but no scrapes or anything like that so should I hone them or I was thinking just bore them .020 over or would .010 over be the best way to go I already had a shop look at them but they wanted I think like $65 a hole. To bore them. What would u all do ... Thanks.... Drew Quote
