dicedealer702 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Hey I was wondering what u thought of a chrome frame. I have a chance to get one should I or should I just get the powder coating? Some one told me the chrome will crack in a matter of time. Quote
NYUK Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 it can be done but results vary, theres all kida rust inside stock banshee frames. p.c. is better. chrome weakens the already weak ass tubing. hydrogen embrittlement occurs. Quote

Hydrogen embrittlement is a problem with the chroming process. But if you have a chromer that is aviation certified, they know how to minimize the problems associated with structural parts. That being said, I ahve had nothing but problems with the swingarm I had chromed. It keeps cracking on me. I have decided when I do my next frame buold up that I am going with powder so at least I can tough it up easily if I have to weld any cracks in the future. Quote
NYUK Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 your everyday neighborhood chromer is not going to be av certified. here on the east coast they don t even do triple plate chrome anymore. i have seen chrome frames around here, most turned out like shit because the frame weeping all kinda rusty shit after the bath. every lil pinhole would need to be sealed by welding for it to come out half decent. i know it would look cool, but chroming a frame would be too much work, powder is the money wise way to go. spurdy Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 If done well it will likely be ok. However, chrome requires a lot of care. Powder is easier to care for from my experience. SP Quote
