1999 Banshee

TORS Elininator Kit

New Ignition Coil

New Plugs

I previously had problems starting my banshee, however, i finally got it started and it idles good

but as soon as you give it gas, it revs up by itself and stays wide open. What could be causing this?

I cleaned the carbs and the idle screws are installed correctly, you just can't touch the throttle or it revs wide open.

are they stock carbs? if so make sure the slides are in the correct carbs and in correctly. or look for an air leak

yes they are stock carbs, and i believe they only go in one way cause there is a lip that sticks out that keep the slide from spining right? ill try and switch the slides around and see if it helps. thanks.

ok, so both the carbs are in sync with each other, the sleeves are in correctly and the marks line up in the windows.

now my problem is that when i set the idle screws all the way in, it revs wide open, i set the screws half way out it idles fine then bogs out when i give it gas then shuts off when the rev comes back down. if the screws are al the way out it doesnt run at all.

another problem im having is it will not start unless i cover the face of one of the carb where the air cleaner goes.

does anyone know why it doesnt wanna idle and run correctly and why it doesnt start unless you block up on of the carbs???

i do not know very much about quads so every bit of info on here helps me tremendously and im tryin to learn every bit i can.

by the way, thank you to all, who has helped me out on here. i really appreciate it and i couldnt have gotten this far without you guys so thanks again.

Did you Add the TORS kit? And if so did you have to drill and tap anything?

How are you setting the carb sync?

Did you make sure that the slides with the slop on it is out toward the filter?

Are you sure that the slides are not getting stuck when you pull the throttle.

(with the engine off, pull the throttle a few times and make sure the slides go up and down without hang ups.

My bet is that your moving in the AirScrew and not the idle screw. The air screw's only on the left sides of the carbs and at a 45deg angle. The idle screws are one the out side of the carbs. IE the left screw is on the left side of the left carb & the right screw is on the right side of the right carb.

yes i driled and tapped the idle screws when i put the TORS kit on. I set the carb sync by slowly pushing the throttle with the engine off and watching the slides and adjusting the cable adjustments so both slides move at the same time. there are no hang ups with the slides. i never touched the air screw, it ran perfectly before, but then on the last ride it stuck wide open and ppl said the TORS failed cause it wouldnt start again, so i bought the TORS removal kit and now im having a hard time tuning this thing.

clean ur slides very well son... i have the same problem but only when i hit a big puddle of water or mud..... the dirt gets into the carb and the slide gets hung up... always on my left carb the choke carb.....and the half moon on the slide faces you ,aka the air filter.. and just becuz u see the slides moving evenly doesnt mean its pulling air from each carb at the same time.. thats what ur aiming for.. u want equal suction out of both carbs.......bebe

ah, this cleared up a couple things for me, the previous owner put a tors eliminator kit on my shee, but there are no idle screws, but there are on the extra carbs he gave me, does this mean my carbs need to be drilled and tapped for idle screws, because my banshee wont idle unless i take the slack out of the throttle cable. one more thing, is the air screw the one next to the air boots?

If you dont have the idle screws in the carbs then you will not get the bike to idle unless you use the throttle cable adj to adj the idle. NOT a good way of doing stuff!!! If you have another set of carbs with the idle screws in them, then just switch carbs unless something is broken or stripped. But you will need the idle screws. Hints the name of the screw. "Idle"

The air screws are the screws that go in the carbs at a 45 deg angle. The the screws are on the left sides of the carbs. The right carb is a bitch to get to sometimes.

Did you remove the black box under the tank? If your sitting on the bike, it is up under the left side of the tank. TORS box. It must be removed!!!!!!!!!!

nah dude i didnt remove the box just unplugged the throttle switch and parking brake switch. ill remove the box tho. im gonna tear down the carbs again and clean them once more and pay extra attention to the slides. would it be okay to lube up the slides with some klotz or yamalube? would it help any?

ill have to look for the box, but the extra carbs are missing one of the idle screws, and theyre broken, theyre more for parts. what will happen if the box isnt removed, and why in the hell did yamaha have to put tors on in the first place, no other quads have them?
