kpennepacker Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 I have a 66mm bore. I am looking to get a modquad head with 21cc domes. My guy at the shop said i needed a special head because of the large bore. Is this true. I looked up the heads and i see that there are some for a 68mm bore but nothing about 66mm bore. So does a std head work in my case and i can give the shop a piece of my mind. Quote

midlifecrisis Posted June 5, 2010 Report Posted June 5, 2010 Im with Bubba. The stock size is 64mm, maxed out you can go as high as 66mm, meaning that a stock head is good up to 66mm. The 68mm is (I believe) the stock size for a blaster. On the other hand you can run an aftermarket head (like me, I have a vitos head on a 65mm bore) from stock up to 66mm, when you need a rebuild, it will be time for a cylinder resleeve, but you still use the stock or aftermarket head even after that. camatv Posted June 5, 2010 Report Posted June 5, 2010 if you'r using the stock head you need to check the inside of it to make sure it will clear the piston also there is a special larger head gasket you will need to use. if using an aftermarket head you should measure the dome and make sure it has clearance on the side's for the piston.. hate to have you nuke a top end because of something simple like that just measure everything. and be sure..
