stockbeast Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 Hello new to banshee hq I am building a stock class drag racer and am looking to upgrade the ignition can someone point me in the right direction. I am looking for a hot coil first then a spark amplifier like a msd box for a car. whatever the equivalent is on a banshee. and best bang for the buck not looking for the best. Quote

I run bone stock ignition on my drag bike except for my timing plate.Alot of guys like dyno tech, they have different timing curves that you can change with dip switches, also nology coils are good coils. That is what i would buy if my coils failed. stockbeast Posted May 28, 2010 Author Report Posted May 28, 2010 wow stock coil on that modded of a bike I never would have guessed. do you run stock because there is no need to mod the ignition would it be something that would help me in the stock class (stock appearing) and does that dynat cdi have a retard curve for high rpms?? ar does it just advance?? Yea,there is no need to mod the ignition, except for the timing plate, that is a very good mod to do, one of the first mods you should do,set it at +4 for a gas motor.I think you can retard the dynatech, they are programmable.Who did your port work and what other mods are you doing to your bike? By the way welcome to the HQ Edited May 28, 2010 by firebanshee Quote

By the way welcome to the HQ Just got this bike. it is all stock right now . I strayed over to the darkside for a while with a raptor. No port work done yet . Last banshee I had I modded past the point of being able to jump on and ride without alot of work before and after riding. Since this bike is all stock and around my area there is a huge stock class I figure this is the perfect class to exploit and still have a bike to play on and the stock class is way cheaper. I just rebuilt the topend with vitos power pistons. Just got it back together to find out the ignition coil was bad so I thought it needed upgraded but I guess I will look for a stock one and spend that money elsewhere. So here is my build so far I just need some guidance from the experts on here to help me finish 99 banshee vitos power pistons boyseen carbon reeds ported stock cages just took off a dyno port 2 into 1 pipe (good woods pipe) for some stockers and they are more rip and more rpms than the 2 into 1 but I dont think they will keep up with the 450s will a mild drag port work with stock pipes or will it hurt it with the stockers I know this is a dumb question I am just trying to run the stock class will probably switch to flat black toomys or some of the new r2s next on list this is what I need help with need stock coil mod timing plate to +4 is there anything wrong with modding the stock plate??? clamp on filters (pods) what size??? Are the small ones too small??? Where to get them??? gearing????? 300 to 600 ft tracks looking for one gear for both if thats possible Tires: cut knarleys is what its looking like Mill stock head How much??? will run race gas if ness. Trying to do all the boltons and see where that gets me before porting but I already know it needs ported thats what is going on so far........I have only had the bike two weeks!! this weekend I will be doing a leakdown test and a comp check while waiting for parts so any input will help out greatly Thanks Dillon Edited May 28, 2010 by stockbeast Quote
AKheathen Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 the dyna f/s programable has 4 pre-programmed curves in it with 2 havingdiffernt levels of retard, 1 stock (ish) and 3 differnt advance profiles. the unit itself has increased capacitance for stronger spark. if you need to run stock exhaust, or stock looking, you can gut the stock pipes and they will pull decently, probably as hard as the dynoport, or you can try to sneak by with ptr's, which look like stock pipes, but without the seams Quote

Hit up one of the site sponsers for the pods, with your motor the smaller ones should be good.6 inch ones. You can get your head shaved .035 and still be safe for 93 octane. You can have your head shaved and get it rechamberd to 19cc domes and run race fuel and still be all stock looking.Around 160psi at sea level is were you need race fuel. Since you are running the Vito's power pistons then you should not run ported cylinders with them, the pistions simulate a port job. Those R-2 pipes sound like a good pipe but i have never been around them.T-5s are a good pipe for what you want, but CPI,Vito Fat Bastards,Shearer, and Rockets are Great top end pipes. Also i see that Jim at Passion Racing is making a new inframe pipe called Snipers.Alot to choose from. Some 35mm carbs would also be a nice add on, or get the stock ones cut to 28mm if you want to stay with the stock style carb. Quote

Wow thanks for the responses banshee hq kicks ass all these mods need to look stock should I mill the head more than .035 to increase the compression even more?? I am willing to run a blend of or all race gas if it will be a better setup. what would be the ideal compression for my stock port and stock pipes?? cuz I dont want to build for rpms with stock port and stock pipe right?? I went with the vitos pistons because I didnt think a drag port and the stock pipes would work good together. Is it a bad idea to build a banshee for mid range for the drags??? cuz a banshee in the mid range has more pull than the thumpers at full song Trying to get it to hook rather than spin with a shit ton of power. only 300 ft drags stock class usually 400ex's are up front and they are juicy turds they just hook good and dont stand straight up like a stock 450 does. you can cut the stock carbs out to 28mm?? I am going to check into that for sure. PTR pipes???? Do they curve around twice like the stockers?? are they any better than the stockers?? Quote
