what is the power differences in the different type of porting. i was wondering if you can get a port job to work with you pipes instead of the other way around? i have t6s planning on t 3s or 5s. i ride dunes just as equally as hard packed dirt riding play i gues is what you could call it.i was just wondering what the different types of porting do where they deliver the power. any help? thanks

"Woods" type port jobs are ment to give you peak hp @ a early rpm of like 7000-7500 and meant to work w/pipes like gnarly's, etc. "Dune" type port jobs are meant to give peak power @ a higher rpm, like 8000-8500 and meant for pipes like t-5's and CPI's, etc. "Drag" type port jobs are for like shearer pipes and for all out top end rpm/hp, of like 9500.

For your future planned T-5 pipes, and dune type riding, I would suggest 190deg exh duration and 32deg blow down.

t-5's and t-3's like 198* and 129* transfer., dune riding... angles and aiming of rhe ports works well also the exhaust shape will also play a part in it. you can run that high of an exhaust and have a rippen motor if its done right..

190 is a boring exhaust number hardly more than stock. even my trail port i use 130-131 trans and around a 195-196 exhaust.

its a blast to ride and wheelies are very very easy to control

um, i'm not gonna get into the timings/shape/area, but you will be most likely more than plaesed with a dune port set to work with the pipes. problem is- that the t-6's will not keep up with the flow of a good dune port. woods port gives the best power from down low where you get into technical root climbing and damn near need to stall the engine, but still has the torque to launch up a mound in an instant, which would suit the t-6's pretty good. mx port focuses on a really broad, flat midrange power, dune port comes on strong in the midrange and pulls hard to the top, which is really fun and reflects the banshees' signiature power, but a little close to drag. dune/play still has decent bottom when you need it, but lets the "dune" pull come on less abrupt. dune/drag, is basically a drag port, but with the timings dropped a bit to give you some useable midrange power to play with. as far as "play", well, that is pretty much up to what the builder thinks is most fun. all of theses different categories change a bit from builder to builder, wheras one mans "dune" is closer to another mans "drag" i 2nd wildcard for many reasons, but any sponsor that you really like will get you into a really powerfull set of cylinders. non-sponsors are hit-miss, and you can end up with really chinsey/cracker-jack/cookie-cutter porting. and, as for power- well, rpm=hp, pretty much, but it's a trade-off of drivability.

oh, and 190 is actually kinda high. i believe stock is 178* 190 is in the middle of dune. of coarse pipes will shape the power profile of the porting

Drag port = gives up bottomend and midragne in exchage for a really strong top end.

Dune Port = gives up bottom end in exhchange for a strong pulling mid range that revs out, and pulls excelent on the top end.

Woods / Trail / MX port = good bottom end pull with some gain on the top end. It wont be as much as a dune port but the emphis is on building a strong bottom end.

IMO the best thing to do is talk to the builder you go with and see which port job will suit your riding.
