michigan_soler Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 ok, so i had it running last weekend, ran the fuel out of the carbs (turned off fuel till it died out) and went to start it yesterday, my float was stuck, pouring fuel out of the left carb bowl tube. took the bowl off and blasted it with carb cleaner, buttoned it back up, and couldn't get it to fire. it will run if i shoot some starter fluid in but only for a min (till it burns off) so im guessing something is clogged (one of the jets... or all of them) am i right to think that? also, at the same time, i don't think the shop sync'd the carbs properly, and i really dunno what im doing with these things. have the sync tool, but without it running, i can't check that at all. and don't get how to use the sync tool really. finally, anyone in west michigan that can check this thing out, the shee is at silver lake right now, but in the next few weeks i should have a trailer that i can bring it to GR or somewhere. is there any good reputable shops, or people out there? finally, i have a second motor, all torn down, but i know the crank twisted. i want it built. nothing special, but its gotta kick over every time, and take sand well... if that makes sense. where should it go, and whats the cost. new crank is needed, rings, pistons... im not even positive that the block is good. but don't trust the local machine shops and wanna know if its still good. Why are you runnin the fuel outta the carbs? its actually hard on a 2stroke to keep doin that....plus it can actually cause the motor to go into an unrestricted rev. but if it worries you that much you can always just turn the fuel off and drain the carbs using the carb drains on the bowls themselves. As for your spare engine....id suggest giving jeff from F.A.S.T. a call....tell him exactly what you want and exactly what you are running on your bike and what you want to upgrade later on and he can build the engine to you. Let us know what you find with your current motor. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 How did it run before you ran the fuel out ? Do you have fresh fuel in it now ? Be very leary of taking it to Ben Dover Banshee Repair. They'll grab you by the BALLS and wallet. Make sure choke crossover tube is in place. Also float bowls are different, are they on correct carb? Don't recall which is which offhand. Hope this helps. michigan_soler Posted April 20, 2010 Author Report Posted April 20, 2010 yeah i have that lil tube on, and i only dis-assemble one at a time, so i don't miss any parts. i just got premium right before heading to silver to make sure i had some nice new fresh gas... the same gas ran great in a yz125 and 250 so id say the gas was good. it just doesn't seem like gas is making it through the carbs at all... for some odd reason. as for draining them out, i never knew it was really bad to run lean for a millisecond. but if it is, i'll stop doing that. whats the best thing to do for when im not going to ride for like 3-4 weeks? I have dealt with Jeff at FAST before, seemed like a great guy, just was thinking shipping an engine would be rediculous in price, and also i was kinda looking for a place that i could take the while shee to when i have problems. I am asking on here to find a good one in west michigan, or one of the guys in the area that have them, saw a few locations being grand rapids and a few being muskegon, and those are very close to me. i really don't wanna get raped, my dad swears by the yamaha dealer in town but they never seem to do a decent job on my shee. so i don't like them. (or is it flywheel) and the precise measurement tools. i just don't want to screw it up. papa, were you in silver last weekend? blue durango... i saw one that looks almost exactly like yours on sunday. also, lmk when you'll have time, or when you'll be in silver, im free every sunday through tuesday right now, and every other saturday. i'll try and run up there sunday and tap around, might rebuild the carbs (atleast pull them all apart and clean them out) which i know is pretty much a rebuild. i heard a few guys will be up on saturday and/or sunday, if i get it running, i'll bring it out on the dunes and see if someone can tell me its running right for a basicly stock shee. please, if you guys see this, pm me your number, i don't wanna bug you guys if you aren't gunna be there.
