BigMatt Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 I bought a mod quad billet kick starter so I tried this on my old rattling one, I took it apart and cleaned and wire wheeled all rust out of it, than took the two halfs apart, I grinded the top of the kicker lever to a flat smooth surface than drilled and tapped a hole in the middle for the grease fitting, now the second half(the part that has the spring and ball & attaches to the kicker axle) I cut with a cut off wheel a grease channel from the top all the way to the spring and ball assy, this way grease can travel from the fitting to the ball and spring, and finaly pushed a O-ring into the bottom of the first half (the kicker lever) so that no grease gets out and no dust or sand gets in, Now i can not post large enough photos so I posted a link to my photobucket so you can see in detail its also explaind there to under the pic, I have had this for 3 month now and no rattle it only coasted me $3.00 let me no what you think! was it a wast of time! here the link with larger photos http://s682.photobucket.com/albums/vv182/mattrentz_2009/Yamaha%20Banshee/ things you need: O-ring $0.55 Grease fitting $1.30 dremmel with cut off wheel drill, drill bit and tap, grease gun. BigMatt Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 has anyone else tried this also? Quote
dajogejr Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 I get a longer spring, grease the hell out of it and smash two orings on top of each other. I don't get any rattles... Quote
VooDooBanshee Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Awesome idea! I might tryhis myself becuase mine is making crazy noises. What size drill bit/tap did you use? Did you just get the O-Ring at the dealer? Quote

Did you just get the O-Ring at the dealer? I went up to my local hardware store(ACE) and picked up the O-ring and a metric grease fitting, the tap size i dont remember but just look at the pitch and drill accordinly than tap, its like the kicker was made for a O-ring there was already a cut around the edge for the ring to press in, i just brought the kicker in and tried different rings till one fit I can try to find the bag and get the size for you. BigMatt Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 I think all the packed grease just stops the rattling all together Quote
BigMatt Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 the size of the O-ring was 3/4 x 9/16 x 3/32 #11 O-ring, theres gotta be more of you out there with different remedies Quote
BigMatt Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 what we did on my dad shee was we turn the kicked a few notches clockwise till the tip was touching the case. we then put this rubber strip with tape on one side on the clutch cover. haven't had a problem with it rattling but i would not recomment this set up for anyone that has a nice cover. it is for a stock set up. i will get some pictures of it this week. ya I'd like to see what it looks like, because I have two bikes and if someone has a better stock mod I'd try it on the next one. Dumb question, but what is the best tool to get that screw out from the kicker? Man, that bastard is on there... Thanks! Quote
dajogejr Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 Yep. It's called an impact driver. You literally hit it with a hammer and twist. It's a life saver on Jap motors with frozen phillips or slotted head bolts. Use it right, it works every time! Quote
BigMatt Posted March 31, 2010 Author Report Posted March 31, 2010 on my other one the head snapped off so I just drilled it out and re-tapped it, if its stripped though you could just use an EZ-out. Quote
BigMatt Posted March 31, 2010 Author Report Posted March 31, 2010 if anyone else trys this let me know what you think. Quote

Mine were pre-stripped when I had to dive into the cover, replaced them all with allen head screws for next time. Quote
VooDooBanshee Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 Yeah, I agree. I actually thought about that impact driver from when I use to wrench on my old Honda civic rotors... What a dumb design. Sometimes it baffles me that they kept that same design for 20 years! DOH! Thanks- Alex Quote
