ok so I pulled my clutch off to install my shift star and first Isaw a finger from my basket is misssing WTF?! no trace in the oil like somebody put it back in like that.now my question has to do with the plates, theres 7 friction and 7steel around the middle of them theres 2 steel plates with no friction between them? also the first friction and last one look all black while the ones between them are metal other than the tabs?the two steel plates makes me think this clutch isnt in order or theres a extra plate but I know you guys will help me out.

Maybe stating the obvious here but seems like someone's been inside there before! They probably tried to remove the nut holding the clutch boss in using a prybar to hold it still instead of the clutch holding tool or impact wrench. Otherwise something that big would still be in the case!!

I really don't know how many plates are in the clutch im sure someone will chime in, I was just inside mine the other day doing the shift star mod and fixing my shifting arm but I didn't bother to count em!

Its crazy how people put stuff back together knowing its broken

One more thing, I personally would replace that item given the speed at which the clutch & basket rotate having a broken one seems like it would throw it way off balance, and cause all sorts of bearing wear... Once the bearings were worn out it would wobble in the shaft causing who knows what kind of damage! A clutch basket is a very simple thing to change when compared to what you'll have to go through if it damages the bearings and eats up the inside of the tranny!!!

It seems to me that you have an extra steel plate. I would recomend you do a VERY close inspection of your clutch pressure plate and clutch hub. Then I would replace the complete clutch, basket and anything else that is wore or damaged.
