Just found out that i will be needing to split the case in my '01 banshee due to a bad crank and clutch release lever.... i was just looking to get some advice on this. My father and I have rebuilt a toyota 22r in our garage with only having to take the crankshafts and stuff to a machinist. I was just wondering if splitting the case on these is real difficult and should it be taken to a small motor specialist? or could it be done by weekend mechanics such as us haha just looking to get some feedback. would like to save some money by doing it ourselves but if it is a difficult of delicate task then we will take it to a local atv/mx shop and have them look at it.

splitting the cases is no big deal. it would help if you had a clymer's manual to guide you in case you get confused, but for the most part its pretty straight forward..

i can take a motor all the way apart and put it back together in a few hours so you guys should be able to do it in a weekend with no problems.
