formula1 Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 Well long story short, I bought this banshee about 2 months ago. I have been riding it every couple days just about 15 minutes or so each time. When I first bought it, it was not leaking at all. It seems the longer it sits then it will start leaking gas/oil. Just the other day it started spitting gas/oil out the exhaust, and it seemed to smoke a lot more. Also I noticed one side and more exhaust pressure comming out than the other. I have alot of time on my hands so I thought what the hell and tore down the top end. Every thing looks good to me, but what do I know this is my first time doing this. I have a few pictures of some things but they are crappy pictures sorry. The cylinders look real good to me, there is no deep scratching or anything. I tried to get a picture but it turned out to bad to see anything. I took the carbs off and they just seem messed up. They are missing all of the screws it looks like to me. I left all the tubing on, Yes they are really cruddy, I haven't cleaned them up yet. Only tubing on them was the vent hoses and one tube connecting both of them. Would a bad needle cause gas to leak in when it is sitting in my garage if the gas is left on? I guess what I am getting at is what should I do. I would like to keep it a cheap fix. I suppose I could of started slower, and changed out the plugs, checked compression, and rebuilt the carbs maybe, but wheres the fun in that. Should I do a complete rebuild or just buy a gasket set and put it back together. If you want any more pictures for clarification let me know. Quote
bansheesandrider Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 It sounds to me like your problem was the carbs were leaking fuel into the cylinders when the bike was not running. It could be a bad float needle/seat, the o ring on the outside of the seat that seals the seat to the carb body could be bad, or the float level could be too high.I don't know what to tell you about putting it back together- if you are flush, you could get it bored and even ported, depending on what other mods you have, while it is apart. If money is tight you could just buy gaskets and put it back together, but I would at least run a glazebreaker through the cylinders and put new rings in it. I also woulnd not port it if you at don't at least have pipes, and you should have a cut head and possibly reeds. AND DEFINETLY CLEAN AND REPAIR YOUR CARBS. Quote
chunky77 Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 i agree float sounds like its not working right. did you do a compression test before you took the topend apart? Quote
firebanshee Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 Put it back together and fix the carbs and run it. Do you shut your fuel off when your bike is sitting? Quote
formula1 Posted March 6, 2010 Author Report Posted March 6, 2010 Put it back together and fix the carbs and run it. Do you shut your fuel off when your bike is sitting? No I have not been turning the fuel off. Should I just get this then .. http://www.farmandsandtoys.com/partdetail.asp?partid=188 Quote

You could also put a little inline fuel filter on your bike. Quote
formula1 Posted March 6, 2010 Author Report Posted March 6, 2010 Thanks for your help guys just ordered a few things from F.A.S.T. Very helpful and nice people over there. Quote
formula1 Posted March 8, 2010 Author Report Posted March 8, 2010 One more question before I get this thing back together. Are the rings supposed to be pinching that little pin in the groove? I have them lined up but they aren't tight against the little pin, and they seem to be pretty loose around the piston not sure how they are supposed to be. I think I still have the stock piston, they have a G and an arrow pointing forward with the number 25 on them. Quote
