MistaBanshee Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Hi all i have purchased a 2006 banshee that was not running. The old owner was told it was a coil. He replaced it and still no go. It was then sold onto me for a fair price. After talking to a so called expert on yammies I replaced the cdi with no luck. I checked the resistance of the coil and the primary coil was shagged. So now we are at my current delimar. I removed and checked the stator, very rusted but resistance was spot on. I have replaced the cdi coil and plugs. So now when i kick it it gives off a spark every 8 or so kick but very light. I towed it behing my car poping the clutch but it just putts a bit then dies. no throttle response at all. Please can someone help this thing is really killing me and i would love to finally go for a ride. cheers all Quote
bbcmudtruck Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 A couple of things come to mind. First being the TORS. Does it still have the tors system? If you still have the tors system, disconect it and see what you get. Next would be to check the pickup gap, it should be the thickness of a business card. Quote
zachass9 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Lotsa possibilities!! First off, I wouldnt pull it, as you can bend a rod!! Next, what electronics are on the bike or have been removed? Lets start there! Quote
TwistedSheeRida Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Pull the spark plug caps and see if its corroded in there. Your main key switch wires might have pulled out a lil by the key switch. Open up your kill switch button and see if the little tab is touching fully on the killswitch. I bet its one of those if not then prob the tors like bbc said. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 My son's 'Shee didn't hit on both cyl all the time when he bought it. Pulled flywheel, cleaned rust off stator, cleaned inside of flywheel, cleaned rust off tabs for pick-up coil on outside of flywheel, BAMM, good as gold ! X-2 on plug caps And pick-up coil gap . Might as well clean your carbs and check for junk in the trunck, I mean tank (lol). Quote

Duneman101 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 unplug the park brake sensor as well, that one could get ya, i am going with that or tors. Quote
AKheathen Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 well, the problem is isolated to it not pushing enough current to the cdi. what it's doing is just providing a tiny bit at a time untill the cdi builds enough to fire. check the flywheel magnets, roundness, in case someone tried to remove it not using the proper puller, then check the ground on the timing plate where the harness attatches to the back side, and chase the wires from the stator to the cdi for good continuity. and the ground loop back by the voltage regulator. if everything ohms out, and you can't find melting, or poor connections anywhere, then it looks like it is, indeed, the stator. i have personally seen this happen. oh, and i would look around for a good used stocker, or you will get raped most likely Quote
MistaBanshee Posted February 26, 2010 Author Report Posted February 26, 2010 hi all thanks for the replies they have been very helpful. I have done the ohms test on all electrical components and everything is in spec. Im going to look into the stator and fly wheel some more tomorrow and check for the pickup to flywheel clearances aswell. If all else fails and I do purchase a new stator what is the best route to go down as I hear that the ricky stator ones arent the best. Quote
bbcmudtruck Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Here you go. This may help you as well. http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/elecfaq.html Quote
AKheathen Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 well, if you are just looking for stock replacement, then look around on the for sale section here, then ebay, for a good used stocker. if you want more lighting power, then i would have to say that moose stators would be the best bet, for off-the-shelf, but a re-wound stocker will be the most reliable.
