Rebuild on Banshee

Recommended Posts

I would not recomend having a shop do your rebuild, you can easily do it yourself. It shouldnt take you more than a couple hours. Get a clymer manual, everything you need to know is in there.

I would definately like to try and do it myself to save money but given how little time i have and the fact its like 19 degrees out i dont know if i want to do it myself...... And what if it needs bored, honed ...then ill have to take it to a shop anyway correct? I just want it fixed fast and painlessly as possible as i just spent 2300 on it and i cant do sh@# with it. thank for you input. Much appreciated.

Im living in Dubai and with summer coming the quad biking season will be over soon (too hot!!).I was thinking of doing a rebuild during this time. I have only had the shee a few months and I picked up a clymers manual already.

Is it really quite easy to strip everything down to the frame (for powder coating)? I guess stripping down is ok but putting back together could be more tricky.

Could anyone outline the steps so i could get an idea. ie Remove fender, remove wheel, remove engine. just high level, not too detailed, more the better though :)

Dude your better off doing it yourself, take your time and follow the manual to the letter. Ask questions on here. Send your cylinders out to a reputable builder and get some porting with the money your saving doing it yourself, they will also bore it and hone it if need be and set you up with the right pistons. If your worried about the cold  get yourself a hundred dollar torpedo heater and you will be good to go.

Even with all that stuff i bet youd still make out better than havin the stealership do it, and alot of times those guys at the dealership are morons and dont treat stuff like it should be treated cause its not theres. Plus those no feeling better than being able to tell people that you built it, not bought it!

thank you to you all for your input and advice. I am going to get the head off as soon as i have time and will see how bad the damage really is. If i do send it out what shops would you guys recommend that do a good job but dont charge to0o much? I also just picked up an 02 Blaster today for the wife and it has good compression biggrin.gif 120psi. had bad gas in it (was almost orange)but drained and refilled. Air filter was horribly dirty :cleaned it: only other concern was smoke from the header and excessive oil on the header at the engine. Any ideas? the gyt gave me a written 2 week warranty so if need be i take it back for a refund. But i was def. stoked about the 120psi compression. and wtf is wrong with people, why do they buy these bikes and not take care of/ maintain them. i mean really shoothead.gif
