dekker Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 What is the best way to remove all the paint from my frame?Does aviation stripper work any good? Thanks,Paul Best way is sandblasting but other than that the aviation stripper works good if you get the brush on kind. The stuff you spray on isn't worth a shit if you ask me. Quote
SubarusAreMyThing Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 sand blasting is probably a little harsh. Id go with more of a media blast. if your only going for paint removal, the preferred method would be a soda blast. Quote
FrankieSquid Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 Well it depends if your going to paint your frame or powdercoat it. If you take it to a sandblasting/media blasting shop make sure you tell them your gonna paint it/powdercoat it that way they can remove the paint the right way. The shyt in a can works but for frames its best to blast them Quote

quaddad817 Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 i know im gonna hear shit for this but...... if your going to blast it use 80 grit glass bead! but the way to do it is go over the whole frame with a rose bud. dont heat up the steel! you just want to blister the paint. if you do it correctly the blast will only take an hour or so. like skinning a steamed tomato Quote

If you just soda blast it, you dont have to worry about hurting the metal, its noob approved. it will take you 20 minutes, and leave the surface paint free, cleaned and prepped ready for paint/powder coat. (minus a good washing of course) Quote

I got almost all the paint off the a arms with a wire wheel on a drill. Quote

I charge $75 an hour. a banshee frame i would do for $40 bucks. All though most shops would probably charge you an hour minimum. Edited November 30, 2009 by SubarusAreMyThing Quote
