BIGONTS Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 I got a frame for my winter project. Looks pretty straight. I will like to reinforce it with some gussets and make it stronger in other places like the foot pet mounts, tail, stem loop., etc... Then it will be powder coated. I know TPR makes a kit and I am considering it. I might make my own since I’m pretty handy and have a welder, etc… Does anyone have pics of what they did and recommendations on all the places that need to be strengthened? TPR’s kit has 17 pieces I believe??? I did do a search and didn't find much on here as far as pics go. Thanks Quote

If you get me sketches of the gussets you would like, I can make them for you (laser cut steel from whatever thickness you want). Even add some custom designs into them or whatever. PM me if you would like to put something together! Quote

Thanks PM me a pic of your frame (side view) and I an show you where I've always put gussets on the banshee frames. Primarily on the A-Pillar that holds your steering stem and back on the sub-frame where your grab-bar mounts are the weakest parts of the frame. Quote

Random pic off the internet. In green are the places I think gussets might be needed. 9 X 2 for each side = 18. Any places going across? Also looking to redo the foot peg mounts. Any pics or recommendations? How thick should be gussets be? Edited November 12, 2009 by BIGONTS Quote

How thick should be gussets be? I think you got all the same spots I would normally do for a HD frame. The gussets dont need to be uuber thick or anything. Your not trying to stiffen up a tank. Its just an ATV. Don't go overboard. It won't take much to make these frames stronger. Look at the thickness of the factory gussets and it will give you a good idea of what to use. When I did my last HD frame I used bar-stock that was about twice as thick as what the factory gusset thickness was. Quote
