So I have an '03 shee, bone stock, (got some toomey tr-6's in a box, kinda jumpstarted this whole project) with probably less than 100 hrs. on her. Always ran great, then I let it sit for about a year, (drained carbs) and the last few rides it acted a little funny. So I decided to tear down the carbs, clean everything, clean the air filter, fresh fuel, fresh plugs, etc.

Now before I cleaned the carbs, my issues were as follows:

1. Low, unstable idle

2. Loading up when holding any throttle position above 1/4 in neutral. Bogging and stalling usually followed.

3. (excessively) erratic throttle under load at low to mid throttle.

4. Almost normal operation under load above 3/4 throttle.

5. Most recently, running on left cyl. only.

After cleaning, both cylinders are running smoothly, idle is appropriately higher rpm and very stable (after some adjustments to idle screw and air-fuel screw). Sounds great, right? Almost.. Somehow my choke is out of sync, as the engine idles and revs normally (in neutral, not under load) only at 1/2 choke. No choke will destabilize idle and stall the bike.

I've cleaned the carbs 2x, can't imagine there's any debris, so it must be a tuning issue, but after extensive fiddling with idle and air-fuel screws, I'm not making any progress. Any ideas?

Keep in mind this is all pre-mod. Stock motor in all respects, stock pipes, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help.

(sorry to be so wordy)

This is all stock, it ran with these jets since new, nothing has changed, there's no reason I should have to change any parts inside the carbs for it to run in stock form. I'm just having some tuning issues.

Yes, but now that its colder out your LEAN and it dont matter if its stock or not, cold = lean no matter what, so you will have to richen them up. Throw in a pair of 27.5 pilots and try it. For a few dollars and 10 mins of your time, give it a shot. Just make sure you adjust your air screws and idles accordingly. No need to take it to the dealer and pay them 200 to change your pilots out and what not, with such a simple carb issue.

Sounds like your needles are lean now also that its cold.

Also make SURE your carbs are in sync to one an other and the choke tube is in place also.

Here is a good link for your Mikuni"s 26's Very good read man everything you want to know and all your questions to how and why are answered here.` http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/jetfaq.html

IMO you should make sure your mains arnt lean now that its cold aether. So do a Proper plug chop to the "T" then you will know. Dont miss a step or its pointless. http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/plugchop.html

Also IMO you should check ALL electrical also, my coil went out a few years ago and i didn't know. I chased the jetting around for 2 weeks and was so pissed off. Went up and down the jetting a couple times, then finally tested all my electrical and the coil worked but had a weak spark. Sometimes electrical stuff one day works proper then the next something goes...just how it is. Heres a good link to ALL your electrical know how and questions and what to do for banshees. http://www.bansheehq.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=28

All good links to bookmark for now and later.

Also if you don't have a clymers manual, pick one up and E-bay for $30 Shipped. Very good to have also and everybody should have one on hand.

Good luck

this is kind of a simple question, but, did youcompletely drain the old fuel out of the tank? there will be a bunch of old premix sludged @ the bottom of the tank.
