RippinShee Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 My builder installed a timing advance plate, and I want to bump my timing up to 5-6 degrees instead of 4. I took the cover off with the phillips screws, and I see the stator and plate back there, but what do i do now to get it to 5? I just dont want to fuck anything up without knowing what to turn. Quote

You have to remove the magneto and loosen up the bolts that hold the plate. You will see on the right side of the plate where the -/+ numbers are engraved, the center line between -/+ is stock setting.where the cases mate together is where you set the mark at,so if you turn the plate to the right to where the +5 line matches to the line where the cases mate your good to go. hope that makes sense to ya? jeff.. crustydemon Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 How do you do that? You need to get the correct flywheel puller first. Remove the flywheel so you can get to the plate. Quote
RippinShee Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 I can see the numbered plate though when I pull the cover off. Quote
bbcmudtruck Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 You don't have to remove the flywheel to change the timing. Just loosen the three bolts that hold the plate to the cases and alighn the number you want with the seam of the cases. 1 Quote

RippinShee Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 So it is that simple? Pull the cover off, loosen three bolts, shift plate to desired timing, tighten 3 bolts, reinstall cover? That sounds like it takes 10 minutes. lol Quote
RippinShee Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 Haha I bet you guys can't tell me the size of the bolts off hand can ya? Quote
VegasJeff Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Haha I bet you guys can't tell me the size of the bolts off hand can ya? If they are the stock phillip bolts, your gonna have to take the mag off. Quote
DallasGDub Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 They are dual 10mm Hex bolts with a Phillips head for adjustments. (Looks like the clutch pressure plate bolts). I think you can fit a small wrench in the back without having to remove the flywheel. It is pretty tight tho. Quote
papa_smurf49319 Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 ya mine are 10mm and you can get to them with the flywheel on, ive even split my cases before without pulling the flywheel off. Dont ask me why i had to do that! Quote
