randytbo Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 when my shee is cold it wont start unless i stand it up on the grab bar. it will start then with about 3 kicks and i have to drop it quick and turn the gas back on then its ok. when its warmed up it seems hard to get rolling from a stop i have to rev it up and slip the clutch but once i get past 1/4 throttle hang the f@!$ on. i have 27.5 pilots in it could they be too big? LOL!...can you get a video of the start-up process? What made you stand it up on the grab bar when it wouldn't start with all four tires on the ground? Seriuosly though, do you have the choke tube between the two carbs? Edited September 23, 2009 by pr0blumz Quote
stokes77 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 I've got this same issue actually. When the quad sits for a few days, the easiest way to start it is stand it up and wait for fuel to leak out of the overflows on the carb. Set her back down and first or second kick she goes. I've checked my needle valve and float over and over again trying to figure it out, but no luck Quote

So you stand it up and start it while its staning?? Thats funny, I would love to see a vid of that. Mine started to get a little hard to start and still ran pretty dam good but my top end was gettin wore out. It could be carb related though. Quote
stokes77 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 No, stand it up, let the carbs leak out set it back down, kick it and go, My buddies does the same with his dirt bike too... lol tips it on it's side till the carb leaks out then it'll fire right up. I am sure it is carb related, I've got a brand new top end with good compression on my bike. Quote
MILO Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 never heard of that trick before, lol. it sounds like you need a good carb cleaning and tune. Quote
stokes77 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Hey, sorry Randytbo, I don't mean to jack you're thread or anything... But I've cleaned my carbs over and over, adjusted floats, checked needle/seat and no luck figuring it out. If I leave the bike sit with fuel on my left carb leaks like a siv, but it will start. I suspect that the left carb drains itself out somehow when I shut the fuel off, turning the fuel back on and tipping the bike on it's ass fills it back up and makes it easier to start. Quote
bode1 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Do you have the bowls on the correct carbs. The one with the brass ball in the front goes on the stator side. I developed this problem after a rebuild, and switching them back fixed it right up. There's been numerous threads on this, there is a jet in the left bowl and it has to go on the correct carb. Quote
randytbo Posted September 23, 2009 Author Report Posted September 23, 2009 i shut the gas off, stand it up, stand behind it, kick it over a few times and she fires up, drop it down quick, turn the gas on and the choke on and she runs great. funny.. yes, effective.. yes. i can kick it 100 times with it on 4 wheels and nothing. could it be a pilot problem? its got a fresh topend with 125 psi at 2500ft Quote
