ws6onslicks Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Ok well recently started getting the banshee out of storage and running again. At first I couldnt get it to start at all, and then after new the reeds, new sparkplugs, replaced the header gaskets, and cleaned the carbs out it will start. But the right cylinder runs fine and the left sputters, back fires constantly(left and right if you are sitting on the bike) I checked and it is getting spark and getting fuel... Dont know what to check next... Quote

Overboost Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 being that you had the carbs apart, make sure they are synced up properly swap the plug wires to see if the problem switches to the other side, if so, its the coil or wires make sure the stator wires are not ate through anywhere, that will cause a miss on one cylinder. Thanks for the ideas! Quote

Well I have the airbox off and I can look straight into the carbs and the slide go up at the same time but they the right side goes up just a little higher than the left... Is this ok? With the plug wires, can i just switch them from plug to plug or do I need to try and switch it all together? Now I will need some guidance from somebody on how to check the stator wires... but from what you say definitely sounds like it should be checked. Thanks man! Quote

Thanks man! nothing special, just pull the wires off and swap them on the plug tops, thats it, if the problem switches sides, you have your culprit, or at least a place to start looking Quote

Thanks man, thats what I figured but might as well check. Now, how do I go about checking the stator wires and stator itself? Quote
Idontknowwhy Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) I bet you it's a fuel related issue IMO Make sure you don't have any airleaks spray some carbcleaner around intake boots and what not while its running To test stator and other electrical components you'll need a multimeter to test ohms If you don't have a clymers manual already.. get one. In the mean time heres a good electrical FAQ http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/elecfaq.html Edited September 18, 2009 by Idontknowwhy Quote
ws6onslicks Posted September 21, 2009 Author Report Posted September 21, 2009 Hey guys I really appreciate the advice but I did a combustion test and that left-side had wouldnt hold any pressure at all. So I decided to break it down.... Its not good!! HAHA the piston rings on the left side are basically gone!! So dont need anymore help right now unless you know of a shop near Houston, Tx that will do a good rebuild for me. Thanks again thought guys, Mel Quote
