bburg5 Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 I just changed froam a stock 14T front sprocket and went with the Renthal 12T front sprocket. My chain is the 520-104 and I need to know what length I will have to go to for the chain to be the right length. Thanks Quote
bbcmudtruck Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 You might be able to run a stock length chain with a 12t. If not you will only have to cut one link out. Quote
AKheathen Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 or, you may end up needing a 1/2 link, like me. set it all up, slack the carrier all the way and see if you can skip 1 roller or 2 on the rear sprocket. i just dropped 1 tooth on the rear, and it'll just squeak by with a new chain all the way out, but will not slack enough to take out a full link (2 rollers) just something to check before you chop a link Quote

How does that half link hold up for you? I was told by a local shop that half links are prone to breaking in high horse machines.? Quote
bburg5 Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 I just replaced the sprocket and noted a lot of slack in the chain without changing the carrier from the original 14T sprocket. I still have the stock 41T rear sprocket installed. Just thought some might have done it and found how many to take out. Thanks for the advice... Quote
Snopczynski Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 I wouldn't run a 12t front sprocket. It will chew through the chain sliders and wear into the swingarm pivot end caps, as well as the swingarm pivot. It also puts a lot of stress on the chain trying to turn around that small of a pivot. keep the 13t in the front, and go up 3 teeth in the rear. Quote
