x_doug_x Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 i have a 250r with a lonestar swingarm person i got it from said it was a 86 i can't find serial numbers on it anywhere, i have took a wire brush to the powder coated frame where it says the serial numbers are and didn't find anything. i need a new piston and need to know if it's a 86 for sure, can anyone tell me how to tell if the motor itself is in fact a 86 motor? please help someone. I think all the motors are the same from 86-89. Shouldnt matter what year it is, they only made them for 4 years. Quote

sinisterboo Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 WRONG!!! 86-87 has a short rod crank, and a different intake port configuration, 87-89 are longrod with a bridged intake port. Email me and I will answer any question you have. Also, the swingarms are same way, 86-87 has steel swingarm the has a motor mount in between the frame ends, and 88-89 had an aluminum one that was solid all the way across where the swingarm bolt goes thru. email sinisterboo@sbcglobal with any 250r questions....
