Aitchy Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 (edited) Firstly my weapon of choice is an '03' , FMF Fatty gold series pipes power core 2's , full Dune Porting , shaved head , dual 30mm OKO D-Slider Carbs & Single Pod Filter , I was told by the previous owner he had put some fiber reeds in it ( Not sure ) I was out in the dunes today , all running fine then she started misfiring on the left side I had a similar problem before turned out to be a dud plug no such luck this time . I; - Swapped plugs over - Swapped the plug caps over - Cleaned out both carbs and swapped them over and the problem is still the same Misfiring on the left , running fine on the right ?? Maybe coil ?? (Not sure if Relevent but , when i previously took the pipes of to polish them up I noticed the left pipe is Blue'r on the bends than the right, definatly getting hotter than the right ???) Has anyone seen this problem before and or can point me in the right direction the help would be greatly appriceated, Cheers Aitchy. Edited August 8, 2009 by Aitchy Quote
hercalmighty Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 Do a compression test and a leak down test. If they check out pull out the reeds and see if they are shot. Since you have aftermarket carbs you could try swapping them and see if the problem switches sides. If you tried swapping the plug wires and it stayed on the left side its most likely not wiring issues. Quote
No Limit Powersports Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 To start if you swapped plug wires from side to side and put new plugs in and the problem stayed on the same side it is not electrical. Always start with a new set of plugs they are cheap and prolly need it anyway then swap the wires. If the problem does not switch sides it is not a electrical problem. You can also swap carps side to side considering your not running stock and if the problem swaps sides then its in the carbs, take em down clean and reinstall. Quote
Aitchy Posted August 10, 2009 Author Report Posted August 10, 2009 (edited) I Finally got there , checked her out this morning before work I have ruled out the reeds there all good , Plenty of compression I then took the front pipe off and lets just say , Im not likin the ridge I can feel around the top of the piston ( Through the exhaust port ), run out of time today gonna pull her down in the morning survey the damage Edited August 10, 2009 by Aitchy Quote
slopoke Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 If you feel a lip the compression can't be right. What number did you get off each cylinder? You did use a guage didn't you? Quote

X2  I would be on a dirty carb. More specifically, a pilot jet. If you can swap plug wires without the problem following the wire, it is not electrical. Should also inspect reed pedal as well. Brandon Quote
Aitchy Posted August 17, 2009 Author Report Posted August 17, 2009 Nipped the rings up across the exhaust port   Oh well rebuild again Quote
