Ok went riding up north in michigan with my buddy, he brought my quad home for me since i was staying with the girlfreind halfway in between my parents house and where we rode. Long story short i gave him the key and when i got back home the key would not turn to the on position, i pulled the key out and it was bent pretty good. I straightened the key out on the vice and still no worky. I pulled everything off down to the key cylinder sprayed some brake clean in and there still was no success. I guess first question is where could i get a replacement, second if theres anyway to bypass the key for this weekend , want to ride bad tommorow. I dont want this to sound fishy at all, this is my 95 that i have had since 2004.

Thanks

Where you at in michigan i have one on my bench if you want it its offa 91

Im 15 -20 mins north of grand rapids, how much would ya want. Id like to have this thing running by tonight, is there anyway i can bypass the key until i recive it. I was also thinking that maybe my buddy mixed up the keys because he has a banshee also, but he said hes been riding his. Would two keys work in his and mine be so picky that only one would work?

Thanks

to bypass the key pull the harness apart. After that use a small peice if wire from the red and black wire to the black wire that should complete the circuit and then it should start. If i read the wiring diagram right that should complete the circuit. Honestly i would just eliminate the key all together

yup, it's possible. if his is worn out, it'll accept multiple keys. hell, some car keys might work. clean it with a lubricant, like wd-40, and try to swap keys.

I would replace it with one of these. The plus side is that it has a tether.

Ok wired the ignition to a 20 amp toggle switch and mounted it under the seat, works fine, and quad runs. Now i havent ridden it yet this year but i have alot of smoke coming out of the right pipe. Checked plugs and plugs are tan and perfect. This motor was rebuilt by me in 2005 or 2006 and i bought 30 over wisecos and a vitos super stock crank. Anyways i gave it a compression test and im down to 90 in each cylinder? I did a compression test on my buddys 95 thats never been rebuilt and hes at 125 and 130? Does this automatically point to worn rings or could there be a seal somewhere in the case that is taking a crap and maybe thats also why its smoking?

more than likely your rings, pour premix oil in your cylinder and see if that helps you should be able to feel it when you kick it but if your compresion goes back up its prolly your rings

Its just got me wondering why one side is smokin like a banshee ( no pun intended). I will check my coolant level tommorow, and tranny fluid. Also i know you wont be able to tell without pictures and it being miked, but i hope i will be able to get away with a hone and some rings. As i am rebuilding my tranny in my truck right now.
