Alysiak00 Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 hey all. have a dumb question. i have a buddy who has a sweet banshee and he put 110-114 octane in his bike with castor oil and now it wont idle. it ran fine before he put the race gas in it with 93 octane and the castor oil. do you guys think its from the gas or maybe something else? thanks Quote
mopar1rules Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 why did he put race gas in his shee in the 1st place? if he doesn't have high compression like 170lbs+, then there is no need for it. you will be losing horsepower! you will probably need to now advance the timing to like +4 to idle and run right. higher octane fuel needs more timing advance to burn the fuel. if he has 150lbs or less, than he should drain the tank and run 93 octane fuel......that's what i would do. Alysiak00 Posted May 10, 2009 Author Report Posted May 10, 2009 do u think he hurt anything in the process? Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 do u think he hurt anything in the process? No, just doesn't have enough compression to burn such a high octane fuel. (unless of course hes got more than 150psi in the cylinders) Quote
Ieat4strokes Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 I thought race gas burned slower, hence the reasonto need higher compression and to advance the timing to start the combustion process sooner? Quote
mopar1rules Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 (edited) I thought race gas burned slower, hence the reasonto need higher compression and to advance the timing to start the combustion process sooner? Ieat4strokes, you are correct. 2slow350 is wrong. higher the octane, the slower the burn and the cooler the burn. Edited May 10, 2009 by mopar1rules Quote
Alysiak00 Posted May 10, 2009 Author Report Posted May 10, 2009 okay news update. he feels like an idiot. the stupid throttle cable was slacked out and needed replaced. were gonna put a new one on and that should do the trick. but he told me after the fact that the compression in his engine is higher than normal....i guess this is why he put the race gas in.....who knows. hes not the smartest dingbat to ever walk the earth lol. mopar1rules Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 how high is his compression? what domes is he running? Quote
