lambchop Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Finally put the motor back in the frame. It will start, but will not idle or stay running.Anyway, Here's what I have: 99' Banshee, new Mild Play porting,Tommey T5 pipes ans silencers, New 66.5 WSM pistons (know last bore size), new head rechamering and milled to 18cc, All new bottom and top end gaskets/seals, New TORS eliminator kit, Stock timing, stock airbox with lid on, Has a boost bottle but have ordered stock tube, stock carbs 300 main and 25 pilot, I moved the needle on clip leaner, Brand new plugs. 32:1 Yamalube premium pump gas with Klotz Nitro (planning on running 50:50 race/pump gas as sson as I find some). Choke tube is on and I have ordered a few sizes bigger on the Pilot jets in case I needed them. It will start fairly easy, but will not idle on it's own. Up to 1/4 throttle runs fairly good then starts lugging. Past 3/4 throttle cleans out and sounds great. The right side pipe gets real warm but the left stays cold. The left silencer seams to have alot of oily stuff coming out of it. I pull that plug and it doesn't even look wet. One thing I did notice and am replacing. The intake does have some "Boost Bottle" cracks. I gooped them up real good with silicon to seal while I am waiting for the replacements to arrive. Slides have been synced. Air screws at 1.5 out. Help Guys????? I really want to ride Quote

lambchop Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 What sense would this make? I found that I did have the slides switched, but now that I corrected them I can't get it to start at all???? I was expecting it to run great and was excited. Now I'm really frustrated????? Quote
R. Rollins Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) I was wondering why the needle clip was now leaner? Shouldnt Mesa Arizona be close to sea level or only a bit higher? Is there a big altitude in the area where you are located at? I guess I would maybe just set everything back to stock settings from the book. Then adjust as needed from the running bike conditions as you get them. Are the carbs adjusted at least visually to sync before attempting to start? Are the float bowls set evenly or the same when you had them apart? Are they (carbs) really cleaned out, as idle jets etc...? Do you have a strong blue spark at each cylinder? Is there any mods on the timing plate or adjustments on it, that may have to be considered prior to any of the Banshee experts providing any advise? I think that it just may be carb related, but the experts need to pipe in on this one with more info from you on these things mentioned. I hope you get this fixed soon. Good luck. AKheathen Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 are you sure you have the slides right now? the wonderfull thing about syncing the carbs when they go back together, is that you can only see the dots in the windows when you have them in right. you might wanna think about switching to 40:1 after break in. what do the plugs look like? Slides are right, bowls are right. Your right, I probably should go to 40:1 for break in. Once I get'r running I probably will mix to that. I'm thinking that I did something wrong when I set the float heights. I noticed a routine of when the bike sits for a while It will run for a couple seconds. The second I try to give it more than 1/8 throttle. It shuts off. Acts like it suffocates or something when I try to blip it. Quote
lambchop Posted April 5, 2009 Author Report Posted April 5, 2009 What kind of filter r u running It's just a Toomey foam stock replacement. Figured it out though. Besides switching the slides. I held the Pilot jets up to the light. Could not see through them. Cleaned them out with a wire. Put it back together and this quad is ripping!!!!!. Gotta go easy on her for a bit though through the break-in. Quote

Wouldn't I want to run it richer through the break-in phase though. 40:1 quit a bit richer isn't it? Quote
