lokisbuddy Posted March 19, 2009 Author Report Posted March 19, 2009 A misplaced jet, bad reeds, improperly set float height, torn choke crossover tube can cause issues like this. Did it ever run good with this setup you have now? It ran good before it backfired and quit, I tore it apart and found that old chunk of hose under the needle seat (don't ask me how it even got there) It was jammed in the hole under the seat (roughly the same size as the hole) Only problem it had before was a slight low end bog. Out of all those things you just said the only it could be is the reeds or floats. I set the floats at 13/16 of an inch and the reeds looked good with no chips or cracks but I am getting air feedback through the left reed cage. Quote
BlasterKX Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 i know you have heard this a 100 times but you might have your floats swapped. theres people out there that think you can mix and match them cuz there the same carbs etc etc. but you cant. as far as i have been told is you dont mix up any right side carb parts with the left side carb parts. just incase you might be questioning that. now since its getting warmer out id try like stated before. take the little air filters off and put the setup that came with it one there and see what it does. just trying to help man they take timew and alot of patiants. good luck bro Quote
lokisbuddy Posted March 19, 2009 Author Report Posted March 19, 2009 Actually that may be slightly possible. It's worth a shot I guess. Quote
BlasterKX Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 but def check the tips of the float needles tho. if it looks torn or cracked then replace it. there should be a black rubber tip on them. Quote
lokisbuddy Posted March 19, 2009 Author Report Posted March 19, 2009 I checked them they actually looked great thats why I messed with the floats in the first place because it was leaking gas out of the over flow tubes. Quote
Snopczynski Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 If you blow through the fuel inlet tubes and close the floats, you shoul not hear air rushing through the needle/seat assy. It will hold pressure. Is that the float eight spec (13/16"???)???. Reeds need to seat against the cages with no light showing around the edges as you look through them. There is also a certain angle and amount of tension that the float arm should have as it presses against the needle to set the height properly. Quote
BlasterKX Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 thats why i never mess with float higth unless i absolutly have to. i just turn my gas off when it sits after riding it. Quote
lambchop Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Have you pulled the fuel line from your petcock yet and checked to see how fast the fuel is coming out? If it's not pouring out your carbs are using the fuel faster than it can flow from your tank. Make sure your breather hose isn't clogged as well. It's usually something simple like that. I've had alot of bikes and never had to mess with the needles and bowls unless it sits for a long time with bad gas or your rebuilding the carbs Quote
lokisbuddy Posted March 20, 2009 Author Report Posted March 20, 2009 Dude my float arms look mangled I think I will get some used floats or something. I think I royaly fucked mine up. One side sits higher than the other. none of these problems ocured till I fucked with the floats. Quote
dt200532 Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Just a thought my banshee did the same thing and turns out i had a stuck ring on the clutch side, maybe try a compression test, just a thought Quote
lokisbuddy Posted March 20, 2009 Author Report Posted March 20, 2009 Well I tried almost everything. I can't figure it out. I am gonna make a leak down tester and buy a compression gauge and go from there. If it isn't any of those two things I will get new reed petals. I am just curious when you say a stuck ring on the clutch side, are you refering to a piston ring that welded itself to the piston? Quote
lokisbuddy Posted March 20, 2009 Author Report Posted March 20, 2009 Ok guys I took my left reed cage out and it looks good. (that's the one that was bubbling air through it.) I also held the carbs upside down and blew throug hthe fuel inlet and it is air tight. turned it right side up and air gets through. I am stumped, it has to be the floats or its blown up. But it runs good on choke when I first fire her up. I have new plugs I am gonna put her back together and see if that helps. Here are pics of my reed cage. Okay now is this the top of the cage or bottom? I don't know maybe I put them in upside down. Quote
Overboost Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Haha you dont like burton? I like burton alot better than flint. I lived in flint for a year on the east side. We used to drink at this bar in burton called jester something. I go to burton like once a month. Oh and a bar called the red baron or something like that? yea, the red baron on center and jesters lounge on north center. I am in grand blanc, I just use flint on my sig so everyone knows where it is, no one ever heard of grand blanc outside of genesee county. Quote
