BANSH-alena-jol-EE Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 hello i just read a post and someone said that a drag ported banshee will not be good for trail riding, i was thinking about getting a drag/dune port job and i will also be doing alot of trail riding, first gear only stuff sometimes.......what makes the drag port difficult to ride slow haha ? seriously whats the deal-e-ooooo? sheerider1026 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 drag port=no bottom end.. if you rode a drag ported motor you would understand... there are other ways to get great power and still have lowend power.... call and talk to a builder about what you want.. Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 most drag ported motors start to make power at 6000 rpm on up. thats not useful if youre lugging around in the trails at 2 or 3k. if you ride mostly trails youd be much better off with a stump puller of a motor that will let you pull taller gearing in case you wanna do some dragging. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 it will make very little power off the pipe. and all of its power on the pipe.. that is the nature of 2 strokes, but it gets worse with drag porting... a builder can talk to you and get you the power delivery that you want. Quote
tony cub Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) hello i just read a post and someone said that a drag ported banshee will not be good for trail riding, i was thinking about getting a drag/dune port job and i will also be doing alot of trail riding, first gear only stuff sometimes.......what makes the drag port difficult to ride slow haha ? seriously whats the deal-e-ooooo? if you do 1st gear type riding,a drag port is'nt for you..hell if i were you and always in 1st, i would think of getting a 4 banger.lol..let someone else open that baby up..lol.. Edited March 15, 2009 by tony cub Quote
RagunCajun Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 talk to whoever will be porting your juggs. Discuss what type of riding you do and what you want out of it. He can tell you what is best. If he cant do any of that, go elsewhere. Quote
GrMeyer Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 is there a big reason on why your wanting a drag/dune port? I got an aggressive Dune/play port done from GTravisRacing.com I ride alot of fast trails and dune alot with the mild drag. Just got the jugs back yesterday and waiting for the pistons to come in. all in all the port and polish job came out great. Just waiting to get the back together to see how fun it will be... Quote
sheefreak Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 You will have traction issues on a trail bike w/drag port. The power is all or none. It comes on like a freight train. Paddles and studs are basically the only things that will get you traction w/this kind of power. This is why MX people went to the 4 strokes for racing. It is not tha they are faster, just where in the RPM range they begin to make power. Quote
BANSH-alena-jol-EE Posted March 15, 2009 Author Report Posted March 15, 2009 i usually ride and keep the rpm's up, this works fine, shee spins alot ahha but i like it!!!! y cant this style of riding just be used with the drag port or dune or whatever Quote
sleeper06 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Another problem you run into is the heat and compression of a drag port motor,my bike runs +7 timing, high compression on gas,all this complimants the port but also gets crazy hot,I think you would have heat issues,I have ridden my bike in trails and woods, but took some tune out of it,it was still alot to handle on a narrow trail with rocks and shit Quote
