steven Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 hey you guys i was just wondering if anyone has tried or knows if octane booster works?? and would this hurt my motor in any way if i use it.?? its just cuz racing fuel is just to much $$$!! :shoothead: now a days.... Quote
arkansaw Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 I don't believe octane boost works. A high performance machine needs to be operating with the correct fuel-- No shortcuts. Quote
3SGTE Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 work for what? if is for advanced your timing more or added little dome yes it's works...So of how much is the question? Quote
GrMeyer Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 just get some 100LL from the airport and call it good... Quote
Darthwall Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 I will say it I have used octane booster and have made some good power! the ones I like are REAL LEAD and NOS off road, fuel additives. the REAL LEAD is supposto be the same stuff they put in race fuel to make the fuel high octane the more OZ,s per gallon you put in the higher the octane works preatty good I think you can go up to 118 octane? And the NOS stuff is supposto have NITRO mixed in it if you get the OFF ROAD formula. I have tried the Lucas stuff before and was not impresive to me at all! its all trial and error google REAL LEAD and give it a try Quote
rubberneck Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 Snake oil. Most octane boosters just contain solvents that slow the burn rate of the fuel and therefore decrease preignition. they dont actually raise the octane of the fuel. Buy the proper fuel or lower the compression. Quote
Fireroad Express Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 the more octane booster you add the hotter your machine will run. get some race fuel, they make it for a reason. Quote
Overboost Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 (edited) there are some truths behind octane boosters, and some bad.. first, I used to race my grand national, everyone knows you are not cutting corners on an engine running a turbo boosting @24LBS, but there are ways to make your gas go "farther" so to speak. first, a way to make your own octane booster that works EXCELLENT and will give you some great gains, but in the meantime, is a pain in the ass to do.. xylene, mixed with trans fluid and kerosene... sounds fuqued but it works, my GN loved it..... but since no one wants to do that, it costs about $20 to make 1.3 gallons of it which treats about 5-10 gallons of gas I have included a list of octane boosters that work, and ones that dont. it is a review done by private company so you can decided for yourselves whats good, whats bad and whats bogus. I used the STP in my vette and road bike, no bad effects. but...it does only raise the octane value by around 2-3 TRUE octane points (93 raised to 96 octane) http://volvospeed.com/Reviews/octane_boosters.html EDIT: to read about the reviews, just click on the picture of the booster that is in COLOR in the picture Edited March 14, 2009 by Overboost Quote
kodie Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 i heard the only one that really works is that kemco stuff it contains lead so not good for cars but will work for a shee. Quote
