bassmaster345 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 What could have caused this? I just bought this banshee ( didnt pay very much for it thank god) and took it out for a spin after getting it running and it ran pretty good except it had a bog when out of the power band. So I decided to tear it down and this is what I found. One piston has a dent in the dome and is actually cracked on the inside of the piston, and it has extensive scratches in the jug. Haven't got the case apart yet to see what all is in it. Rod bearings seem to be in good shape, It has Vito's pistons, cool head with 22cc domes, the rest I have no clue. Here is some pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/15592546@N08/show/ Quote

bassmaster345 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 Also is this a stock clutch or aftermarket? http://www.flickr.com/photos/15592546@N08/3349789637/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/15592546@N08/3349789703/ Quote
278 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 I dont think it running lean would cause a dent. It looks like someone took a hammer to it, so Idk man. I would think any major impact wouldnt dent it because thats the strongest part of the piston. I would think it would break something off Quote

banshee_terror_ Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 (edited) also those big dent things are on both pistons so they were definataly cut like that. its also a stock clutch Edited March 13, 2009 by banshee_terror_ Quote
bbcmudtruck Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Looks like it was lean and burnt up. I don't know what the fuck is goin on with those pistons, I've never seen any with the top cut like that..? Quote
bansee fever Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Ive neve seen anything like it? Quote
bassmaster345 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 When I got it it had NGK B7es plugs in it and also the stator was set at +2 Quote
sleeper06 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 So you were running a hotter plug and more timing, that will cause some heat and a lean cond,It also looks like a lot of dirt, those pistons bring the exhaust in early.Basically it was a time bomb Quote
278 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Well if the dent is in both pistons and it has b7es, correct me if im wrong but the b7es plugs sit farther down in the cylinders, depending on the head maybe he cut them to clear, or thought he needed to cut them to clear. Quote
