I have a chance to buy a 02 Banshee with a 99 Duncan race engine and am really wanting to find out this problem before I take this thing on. The owner states that when you start it, it goes to wide open throttle. He says all I need are the Tors kit and that will fix the problem for around $50. Sounds great to me. I can buy it for $2000.00. Here is his description:

Hear are the pics Its a 02 frame with a 99 banshee duncan race engine its a 370cc .Power head ,pyramid reeds (duncans own version). Its was a good running bike but it does need the T.O.R.S carburetor caps that eliminate the electronics. When it starts it wants to go wide open then shutdown then wide open then shutdown. What needs to be done is to get on ebay and buy some 34 mm carbs and throw away the stock 28's the bigger carbs would make this bike scary. Or you can keep the 28mm carbs and just add the Tors kit to fix the problem as well........id take 2k the way she sits....

Now I have seen this bike run before and it was pretty awesome. It has sat for over 6 months because he had gotten another Banshee and had spent all his time and money on it. So do you all think this sounds about right or what?

Thanks for your help guys....

Either the slides are hanging up, (could be due to cable issues or the slides sticking in the carb)

or,

there's an air leak somewhere on the intake, (boots, cross over tube, etc.)

or, it is running out of fuel causing a lean condition (blocked screen in the petcock, blocked vent in the gas cap, incorrect float height)

Stock carbs are 26mm.

If you get a chance to inspect the bike, remove the airfilter and look into the carbs while operating the throttle, the slides should drop down all the way to the bottom with a load clunk.

it has a bigger problem that the tors system and it doesnt have 28mm carbs. even if there taper bored the maximum they can be is 27.5 and even then they dont run like a true 28 does.

not sure why it's surging, usualy if they run wide open they stay wide open. maybe a fuel delivery problem? maybe they did bore the carbs to 28 and it's leaking air by the slides?

I'm going to pick it up Saturday and mess with it a little before I agree to buy it. I will check the slides and see if they are closing. I talked to him last night and he said they are 28mm carbs not 26's. But they aren't stock. They are aftermarket.

Anything else I should take a close look at before buying a Banshee?

Thanks for everything...

I left my Banshee sit for a month once since I had with the fuel on. Sat that long because I had it all torn apart workin on the clutch but besides that once I got it back together and went to start it once fired up it was WOT..I would kill it and start it again....I'm guessin your slides are stickin in the carbs due to it sitting for so long..If you can take them off and clean them with some carb cleaner....SLides should go up and down smoothly....Hope ya figure it out so ya can get it man..

COMPRESSION.

it should be a ptr powerhead, so find out what domes it has, your elevation and temp, and what compression in each side. if you can get it running, make sure all the gears are solid and shift good. check the frame for cracks. those are the only big time/money problems i can think of, though it may need suspension/axle work if it hasn't been done recently.

here he says it has stock carbs that should be ditched, also if they need the tors removal then it has stock carbs.

stock carbs are 26mm unless they have been bored out, if they have been bored than they are likley 27-27.5mm...

once you get the bike let us know what the carbs say. if they say mikuni there more than likley stock or stock bored carbs, if they say kehin then they are aftermarket. the only way to truely figure out what size they are is to mic the intake side...
